There isn't an official discussion thread for the episode so I'm posting this here.
I know the observers never say anything directly but if Peter is that important to them for whatever reason, September could have told him he was in the right universe and that was the Olivia he’s supposed to be with. He was in a talking mood…
What if, in the middle of all that is happening, September intention from the beginning was to nudge Peter over to ensure he accomplishes his true mission? The one for which he was so important in the first place? And one that is not creating the bridge. Because, I can’t understand why he did not erase him: the bridge was created, Henry was erased, all was pretty and shiny in the universes. He could have left it at that :confused0006:.
Somebody mentioned emotions. That September was trying to preserve them for his kind. I find it hard to believe that September would go through all that trouble just because he likes Peter. August felt emotions. And even him, didn’t sacrifice himself out of sheer love. He said, he sees the girl is important. In spite of what their observer group said. So there must be something September is not telling us.
To me, he’s acting more like a curious scientist (now that we know they are scientists). They made an experiment (timeline rewrite), they had unexpected results (Peter bleed through) and instead of discarding those results altogether (the other observers/ erase Peter) he’s trying to figure out their significance in the great scheme of things.
And I am sure this is Peter’s timeline, the observers have said so. We saw it happened. We know. And thinking this logically, it would be a mistake of grandiose proportions for the show runners to get us involved in another universe for a whole season just to reset back to the end of season 3. I mean, it can’t be good for business. All of this makes me think that Peter is in the right timeline. And I don’t see how he can go back to the previous timeline without prompting again the events that led to the 2026 future. The whole point of the machine is to create/destroy. If you don’t create the bridge you destroy universes.
However, as he had said in numerous occasions now, Peter made the same mistake before, he let his emotions get the best of him and he mistook one Olivia for the other and it took a great toll on his relationship with « his » Olivia. So I get why he’s being careful and as someone said already, it shows great courage to be able to pull himself from the love of his life to try and get back to a timeline he doesn’t even know still exits. I also think that DRJ little comment to Olivia about her love for him has a lot to do with it. If this Olivia can feel that way about him with, what he thinks, mere memory of them, then his Olivia must really need him. I feel bad for amberOlivia but if she is our Olivia she has to try and see things from his perspective. She needs to get it together and try something else and stop feeling sorry for herself (great job on the acting though!). It was a great episode.
