This is madness! (in a good way)

Abrams' TV 'Fringe' gets comic book prequel
The hip media empire of J.J. Abrams (Alias, Lost, Cloverfield, the next Star Trek film) expands into comic books this fall when DC Comics offers a prequel to his upcoming TV series on Fox, Fringe. Writers and artists are being decided, but DC says the comic version will hit the stands on Aug. 27, two weeks before the two-hour premiere airs on Sept. 9.

Now we know why there are cows in the previews..cos they're going to be milking this cash-cow early:happy15: Tbh though, this is good news for me, as i've recently got back into the comic-groove and am looking forward to seeing how they go about this.:goodvibes:

Incidentally, anyone fancy having a guess as to 'how' they're prequel Fringe - I mean, will it centre around Walter, perhaps? Or maybe it will be 'fringe-science' centric, rather than using any of our new 'heroes'? And will it actually tie in to the show, or be it's own entity?

Hmm..questions, questions!

That's pretty cool. And I think they could go either way you mentioned. They both sound interesting enough, but would like to see some more walter...

I'm a big comic fan (and I guess a Fringe fan) so I'll definitely check this out.

Man, I can't wait to see who will be working on the comics.

I wonder who long they will go on for..like will they be a regular thing, or just a few editions?

Here's the solictation:

FRINGE #1 – 2
From J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the team behind the upcoming film Star Trek, Mission: Impossible III and the hit show Alias, comes Fringe, a new TV series that will thrill, terrify and explore the blurring line between science fiction and reality. The mysteries start here, in a special miniseries leading up to the premiere of Fringe on FOX on September 9!
Watch for a special announcement on this miniseries’ creative team, coming soon!
Issues #1 retro-solicited; #1 on sale August 27; #2 on sale September 24; 1 and 2 of 6, 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US

No writers or artists announced yet. I wonder if Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman will be writing the comic as well? That would be pretty neat.

So it's a "mini-series" which will only lead up to the TV show? That's still pretty neat!

Good question, it would be interesting to see JJ, Orci and Kurtzman contribute to the writing of the comic. I know it's a different medium, but i'd like it to have that consistency.

Cheers for the info ProjectX2!

Interesting, the DC Comics website (http://dccomics.com/comics/?cm=10266) seems to suggest that there will be SIX prequel comics, as it lists the first two editions as "1 of 6" and "2 of 6".

Usually when comics do these kinds of tie-in prequels each issue focuses on a specific character. Since there are 6 issues, do you think each one could focus on a different character? I think they'll show what each of the characters were doing prior to the pilot if they take this route.

Interesting. I could see them doing that - making each edition a character centric:

Let's see:

1.Walter
2. Peter
3. Olivia
4. Phillip
5. William Bell/Massive Dynamics/Nina Sharp
6. Charlie

I think I may go get this too, I never got into comics or graphic novels too much, but this may just be worth a read.

Yeah, for $2.99 I think it could be worth it. I wonder if they'll plant some clues (the pattern) in the comics for us fans for fish out?
