My crazy theory for the alter-universe is:
The Nazi's won WW2 so that is why the ZFT manuscript is in German.
Also, In the alter-universe, German has become the lingua franca instead of English.
End of theory.

How would you explain it when Olivia see's into the alternate universe and is still pretty much the same person? I dont think we would have an american FBI agency if Nazi's were in control.

Yeah I somewhat posted this idea last night ... except I also disagree the lingua franca would be German. Apart from her interactions with Charlie and others in the alterverse, you could clearly hear English being spoken over loud speaker in the chaotic-city-scene. But I do think there is something to the German's winning WWII ... and lest we forget that Mr. Jones was imprisoned there for stealing "state secrets" :ninja:

What if...
What if the thing which is diferent in both universes is the fact that Peter is or isn't alive?
Think about it. If there's not a Peter, them Walter is still in St. Claire, the Fringe division doesn't exist, they can't solve the pattern cases... Anything of what we saw in this series happened how we watched it. Maybe Olivia works in the FBI solving those cases, but without Walter and Peter skills and knowledge. And, of course, ZTF is able to do everything, including an epidemic of vampires (xD) in Boston which force them to put the city in quarantine.

Even if German was Lingua franca for "the alter world" it wouldn't be spoken by American speakers in an American city. It would just be the "international trade" language. Just as European businessmen today don't speak English in their local dealings, but they would in international trade.

I support the idea that a single event has caused the "rift" between the worlds to collapse in a domino effect type pattern, and I like the theory that Peter could be the one "standing in the gap", or at least a catalyst.

Good point. It also might show why both Olivia and Peter are somewhat familiar with it (well, Olivia seems fairly comfortable with it). Of course we also have Olivia busting out Chinese in Midnight, so who knows.

i really like this theory. I always had a small underdeveloped theory that Peter is the most important character. Olivia is our main character but in the mythology, Peter is the most important. I also have a theory that Peter was the first with "Abilities" and was the basis for the entire Cortexiphan experiments.
This fits really well with peters past and some theories that have been posted on here. So, in theory....
Peter is actually KILLED, either in the accident or when he was so sick Walter "nearly" went back into time to retrieve some doctor (i may be wrong, but i remember that being the just of it). So at some point either Walter himself, or more likely the Observer, crossed realities to "replace" Peter with Alter-Peter. Thus disabling the Alter-realities' Olivia from retrieving Walter and in which case Fringe division is never really formed??!!

My thoughts is that the domino effect and rift is what will eventually start this "war". Also, because of the events at the end of "The Road Not Taken", it might have already started:ninja: :what:

This theory totaly completes my ideas of the war already being faught by ZFT accross the dimensions ie. when they conduct their attacks/experiments in our world the effect is also felt in the alternate world. Perhaps they realized that if Bishop resurfaced in our world and not in the other that the war could be won and thus they are stepping up the attacks and activating "warriors". I'm also thinking that those treated with coretexephan are the warriors that can cross over and thus bring the fight to the enemy.
On another note, I have a strange feeling that Broyles' office has been seen in it's other-side configuration in a previous episode. Can anyone confirm this?

I am almost sure of this as well. No photographic proof, however. I am also thinking we have seen Broyles with a wedding ring on at times...

So is it generally accepted that Peter is a focal point (or fulcrum, or lens) of some sort around, or through, which the other people with abilities will be focused?
I really haven't seen much to substantiate this theory, but I'm not discounting it either.
Maybe Peter is just a wild card?
Has he shown any abilities at all other than high intellect?
Maybe his ability is that he can see the true meanings of things? He does seem to be able to intuit or reason out which things others cannot.
