WHEN was the WTC scene in the season finale ?

We all know that the WTC scene with Olivia and Bell occured in an alternate dimension where the towers ere still standing , but the question seems to be, WHEN were they ?

For example;

Did Olivia travel to a dimension where Bell perhaps owns the Towers, as there did not seem to be anyone else in the building other than the people who were working for Bell. ?

Did Olivia travel to a dimension where the date is September 12 2001, and the event of the planes crashing has simply not happened at all ?

Did Olivia travel to a dimension where the date is September 10 2001, and the event of the planes crashing has YET to happen?

Did Olivia travel to an alternate dimension where Bell is not the richest man in the world ?

Just a few thoughts .. ;)

9/11 didn't happen in that reality. Neither did JFK's assasination. There's a short clip with Pinkner talking about this reality may be a better reality to our own. I'm wondering if we want to emigrate and fight for That universe. :confused0006:

It's probably 2008-2009 (same as the original one), seeing as Obama has been elected as President and is moving into the new White House.

The newspaper said May 12th, 2009, so that timeline was similar to ours. And like Cathy said, the time had passed but those events had never taken place, or at least hadn't happened exactly like it did in our universe. The newspaper said Obama moves into the new White House, which could mean that instead of hitting the WTC, the hijackers had hit the White House instead.

I think that the attacks in this alter-reality didn't happen on the WTC..but the White House instead, as the paper in Bell's office reporting that Obama moves into "New White House" indicates.

Although as you point out, this reality could still be in 2001, or rather 2002 (accounting for the time taken to build a new White House) or 2009 (i.e. exactly the same time as it currently is in our world), meaning that the attacks in this alternate world happened at a later relative time to ours.

Or any time in between or ahead. For all we know it could be 1511 in this world. I doubt it, but the writers could go there if they wanted to - especially if they want to make a statement about how far their world has come in a shorter period of time than ours (assuming our two realities weren't 'born' at the same time, of course)

I guess time is very much relative in this sense. So not only are we dealing with alternate realities, but time may not be what we think it is across these different realities - does time run exactly side by side with our concept of time, or is their time..their history slightly behind (and different) from ours....:confused0006:

EDIT: Thanks for the newspaper date mucca - I guess that settles it in terms of 'when'. I kinda wish the writers made this alter-reality time different from 'ours', but I can see why that might get confusing in the long run. And who knows, perhaps we'll eventually meet another reality that is similar in development, but different in the time taken to reach that development.

I'd rather keep believing that time in the alternate world and our world is the same, meaning it's May 12, 2009 in our world in the current Fringe timeline. Makes things less complicated and it also means we have a fixed date for when the story is taking place.

Yeah, I agree.

Although I do wonder about the Observer's world (assuming he's not from the world we saw at the end of the episode)..I think his world could be "ahead" of our own, both in terms of time and evolution. :confused0006:

Maybe in the dimension Bell currenlty inhabits, they started using the Julian calender a bit later than in our dimension, resulting in the date of September 10th 2009 in our dimension actually being September 10th 2009 in their dimension ? Therefore they have a date that appears to be later than ours, but is actually behind our own history by a few years ? Haha, even I think this is a bit much though;) I also spport the theory that the Old White House was eradicated in some form or another ;) .. :D

I'm hoping it's the same time, it's going to be enough for me to keep up with our universe vs. their universe. I'm afraid to start thinking about complications the "Alters" could present. :D
