Here's the new Fringe title credits:
YouTube - New Fringe Title Sequence

I managed to catch Nanotechnology, psychokinesis, Precognition, Artificial Intelligence, Dark Matter, Suspended Animation (I don't know what this is but I so want to find out!), Cybernetics..and Trans..something or other.

I love the way the 'hairs' turn out to be the lines on the palm, great stuff.

Here's the old one (for the leaked pilot):
YouTube - FRINGE INTRO

Which do you prefer?:shiny:

Transmogrification. Basically, taking matter and turning it into something else. IE: Using a machine to rearrange the atoms and electrons in a lump of coal to turn it to gold, or turn it into a steel pylon.

Suspended Animation is basically freezing someone in time. It's highly possible that SA will be used by future EMS crews to freeze the vitals of a patient until they can be transported to the hospital. In theory, it would be done by draining someone's blood and replacing it with a freezing cryo-gel that would cause their entire body to be literally frozen in time, preventing decay and organ failure. The blood would then be replaced once the patient needs to be un-frozen.

I, personally, quite prefer the new one. It has the Glyphs in it, along with a blob of what appears to be ectoplasm or mercury. Not to mention it's atleast 5 seconds longer.

Wow, honestly that is facinating! The more I discover about this show, the more wide-eyed I am as to the possibilities. I can't wait to see how they use both SA and Transmogrification in the show.

Thanks for the explanation:happy15:

I also prefer the new one..I was wondering what the blob was - thought it represented a raindrop of something, but ectoplasm ("spiritual energy"?) seems far more likely.

No problem. I live for stuff like this. :D

About some of the other Fringe Sciences mentioned in the opening,

Psychokinesis, also known as Telekinesis, it the moving of objects with the mind. I doubt that I need to explain it any further.

There isn't really much to say about Dark Matter either. Basically, it's supposed to be an invisible material that fills the space between other matter, but does not interact with electromagnetic fields, preventing it from being seen or detected without machinery that we don't have at this point in time. Although I do believe that yesterday's LHC run may shed some light on it. There's nothing especially interesting about Dark Matter, which is why I bet Fringe is going to put some sort of twist on it.

Precognition is a fancy name for seeing into the future.

Cybernetics has already been shown in the show: That Massive Dynamic woman's cybernetic arm.

The opening shows a minimal amount of all of the Fringe Sciences. Continental Drift was actually a Fringe Science until the late 1950s, which just shows how much stuff known as common sense today was thought impossible in past times.

I'm betting that they'll do an episode about the Tunguska Event (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunguska_event)

I prefer the new ones. But wow, they are very X-Files-esque, just with more CGI, and an extra finger.

Haha. Yeah, they probably will. Yay, even more X-Files stuff. (Can you tell I have a void that needs to to be filled? ;))

Yeah, Dark Matter is an interesting one..partly because I have no idea on how they intend to portray it in the show! I think you're right, they will have to put some kind of spin on it..use that creative license just a lil' but.

I can't wait to see more of that arm..although they'll mostly have it covered up I'm betting. But there will no doubt be other Cybernetic elements in the show - can't wait!

That's the thing, science is advancing so quickly that what is currently considered 'fringe' will soon be conventional.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out in a bit.

Greetings, everyone.

... There's nothing especially interesting about Dark Matter, which is why I bet Fringe is going to put some sort of twist on it.

Regarding the statement above, I beg to differ... dark matter is far more important than most people realize. The majority of the mass of the observable universe is comprised of dark matter and dark energy.

I scraped this off of Wikipedia: Note bolded portions....
~~~~~~~~
The observed phenomena which imply the presence of dark matter include the rotational speeds of galaxies, orbital velocities of galaxies in clusters, gravitational lensing of background objects by galaxy clusters such as the Bullet cluster, and the temperature distribution of hot gas in galaxies and clusters of galaxies.
Dark matter also plays a central role in structure formation and galaxy evolution, and has measurable effects on the anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background.
All these lines of evidence suggest that galaxies, clusters of galaxies, and the universe as a whole contain far more matter than that which interacts with electromagnetic radiation: the remainder is called the "dark matter component."
~~~~~~~~

As Walter noted, as of now, we cannot see Dark Matter with the naked eye because it simply does not render itself visible in the light spectrum as we know it. However, that doesnt mean that tools or other machines might not be capable of rendering dark matter (or dark energy) visible to us.

Also, please note that only two words are repeated in the opening credits: Dark Matter and Psychokinesis. That fact alone should indicate there is probably some relevance!

Ah, appears to be that Dark Matter is a bit more important than I knew. I may have a bit of knowledge about Fringe Science, but I don't normally delve into the matter(Pun not intended) of Dark Matter as often as I should.

Suspended Animation has been used, at least in my opinion, already in the series. If I'm not mistaken they would have had to suspend John Scott's body in order to still be capable of pulling information from his brain.

As stated in the first episode, someone can be read up until 6 hours after death. Now suppose MD could not break the encryption on the brainwaves. So, they would have to suspend his body in time to prevent any sort of harmful effects to his brain due to lack of oxygen as well as the rotting of his body.

Have we discussed the equation that appears in the opening credits?

I am still curious if we know the equation.

There are actually two equations.
I couldn't get very good pics though.

Here's the best one I could get for #1:

#2 was even harder to get, but here's what I got:

Anybody recognize either of 'em?

(Yes, I know it's showing the Youtube bar at the bottom too :P)
