So I was thinking. If there's "The Pattern" that is emerging and that someone seems to be using the world as an experiment (The Great Experiment) then think of experiments in general on a smaller scale as an equation. There has to be something always balancing the equation.
In other words, an equilibrium must be maintained! Take for instance the plane incident. A rapid-tissue damaging virus is released and people in the plane die. There may be a balancing episode containing a rapid-tissue regrowth/strengthening agent in the future (pretty likely if you think about it, person who cannot be killed/die).
More importantly I think we will see an example of this tonight in Episode 1.02... Think of the pilot, one of the few examples of The Pattern or The Great Experiment is that of the children disappearing in 1998 and reappearing all over the world un-aged. And tonight's' episode is about a woman who conceives, comes to full term, gives birth to a fully developed child in an hour or so, then the boy grows to an old man within the episode.
Sounds like an equilibrium doesn't it? The children not aging balances out the child in Ep 1.02 rapidly aging.
It's still a rough idea but basically for every experiment, for every part of "the pattern" there is a balancing part of the pattern. Equilibirum must be maintained. Thus, if Olivia/Peter/Walter are able to prevent an experiment or the balancing product of an experiment from occuring in some episode in the future; the pattern is broken, chaos ensues, season cliffhanger is created.
