Hi FFers!
Here is a simple guide on "ruiners" - items which should not be posted anywhere on the boards (that includes threads/posts, visitor messages, chat and PMs).
What is a Ruiner:
We classify ruiners as blow-by-blow accounts of upcoming storylines and plot details that the creators would want to be kept out of the public domain until the episode airs.
Essentially, a ruiner is something that is leaked or put out there without the will of the producers or network.
Types of Ruiners:
Leaked scripts (entire or portion) detailing upcoming storylines/plot reveals that is not released by or via FOX/producers/actors.
Unofficial set photos, videos (and discussion/linking to those unofficial set photos/videos) of unaired episodes.
Do not confuse ruiners with:
Spoilers. Spoilers can be posted and discussed in the spoiler section (http://fringe-forum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=31) (or outside of the spoiler section using spoiler tags - please remember those spoiler tags! ;)).
Theories/Speculation/Discussion. As long as it's not based on "ruiner" information, you are encouraged to theorize, speculate and discuss 'til the cows come home!:happy15:
To Clarify:
You will only receive a "ruiner infraction" for posting ruiners, as outlined above. That is, for posting leaked script information or posting/linking to unofficial set photos/videos and discussion of those unofficial set photos/videos.
Currently, these are the ONLY two areas that we consider "ruiners". If we add further areas we will update this thread to make it clear.
Remember, if information comes from the network (FOX), the producers or writers, or the actors, it is not considered a "ruiner", since they (official sources) are putting the information out in the public domain. (examples include: interviews, teasers, trailers, etc).
FF's stance is against individuals and websites who do not care if they ruin the creative process of the show by going to great lengths to extract canonical information that is not intended to be released before the broadcast of an episode.
Note: again, this does not include theorizing and discussion - there are many times when we theorize or 'guess' that something is going to happen in the show and it ends up happening - that is, of course, perfectly FINE and is not our concern!
I think I may have ruiner information, but I'm not 100% sure if it is or not - what should I do?
Before you make that post, contact a member of staff via PM (http://fringe-forum.com/forums/showgroups.php) - we will let you know whether or not your info is classed as a ruiner. :sofa:
I've received a ban for posting a ruiner - what should I do?
Contact us (http://fringe-forum.com/forums/showgroups.php) and we can discuss why you were banned. The last thing we want to do is to deprive fans of our community, so if there's a way to sort it out, we try will do that. Do not create another account and/or complain/post absue on the boards as you will be doing your chances of returning no good.:what:
How many infraction points will I receive for posting a ruiner?
As of now, you will receive a minimum of 3 infraction points and a maximum of 6 infraction points - depending on the nature of the ruiner that you posted/distributed on FF.
6 infraction points = a ban.
========================================
Hopefully this will clear up any confusion regarding "ruiners", what they are and why we don't allow them here on FF. This guide will replace the previous guide on ruiners. Any updates will be posted here to make it fair to all members to see any additions or changes to our policy.
Please note: our aim is not to take away your fun. We realize that some people like spoilers - but we also believe that there is a difference between spoilers and ruiners. This is our line. Spoilers are fine, Ruiners (as outlined above) are not allowed to be posted anywhere on FF. All sites have different policies - this is ours, as we believe that it protects the best interests of the show and is inline with the site's ethics.
Any questions, feel free to contact a member of staff (http://fringe-forum.com/forums/showgroups.php). :)
