View Full Version : The Balant Peter Bishop hate
The comments about him have been harsh and really really mean. The thing with mistakes is that people can overcome them and LEARN from them. Peter is no different. Peter is not this perfect guy who makes the best choices. Being a genius have nothing to do with knowing everything or making the best choices. That just makes him inhuman and unrealistic.
Yes, while Peter did make a mistake by sleeping with AltOlivia, who are we to judge him as a character? Name me one character that you have watched on a TV show that has slept with the wrong person? Its not like Olivia was "saving" herself for Peter, you know. Peter can sleep with whoever he wants to.

Thank you. I couldn't have said it better.
Peter may be a genius, but nobody ever said he was wise. In fact, he has spent most of his life running from his issues and starting fires elsewhere. He has a lot to learn and a lot of growing to do. Maybe Peter is a character we won't be able to root for for a while, but let's not burn bridges either. I'm looking forward watching Peter understand himself and the roles he plays in this story better.
edited to add: Instead I should say, it might be hard to understand, sympathize with, or support Peter's choices for a while. I won't stop rooting for him, though, because I still believe he's a good guy at heart, who takes care of the people he cares about, and who will figure things out eventually. :)
And even Olivia, in "Olivia," only thinks they're "sort of" a couple. Sure, his deciding to return the universe with her is a tacit commitment, but their situation, as it was left at the end of season 2, is still ambiguous.
Let's hope the writers have a very good explanation on why they destroyed Peter's character all for the sake of a storyline.

I could never be against Peter... at least not at this point of the story... I mean, look what he is been through... first he has some resentment against his mother because she committed suicide... how could she do that when it was suppossed she was a tough person... his father institutionalized... then knowing his father is not his father... thereīs more than one of everything, but not Peter anymore... the woman he likes thinking and doing the unthinkable to save her man (Olivia to John Scott)... the woman he likes not noticing he is always there for her... and sometimes when she is hard with the man he thinks is his dad he can do nothing to stop because she is right... his real father wants to use him to destroy nothing more than a world... and when the woman he likes gives the right step pluff she is trapped in that world... :(
I donīt blame him if he suspects (because the know is impossible when no one has told him of it) of the switching because maybe he wants to enjoy this very brief moment before the storm comes (fooling himself of course) ... also maybe he wants to know what is Altliviaīs mission... anyway... he has a very dirty job to do... he canīt go to AU to save Olivia, can he?
Maybe Peter was designed by Walternate to destroy our world...
Poor Peter... I donīt want to be on his shoes...
the same to Olivia
but I canīt hate him... I would be protective...

The writers have never destroyed Peter's character. It only your wrong belief ;)
So the writers must have done something wrong.

Well everyone has a favourite character and believe me, there's a lot of people who likes Peter! ;) I know friends that don't like olivia or walter for example. If someone doesn't like Peter, this doesn't have to do with writers. And then, if the writers didn't care Peter, he wouldn't be so important to the observers, he wouldn't be the only one able to power a doomstay ancient device and have connection with the first people!
Take it easy! ;)
The writers said that this year will be mostly peter-centric! ;)

Peter is still is my favorite character. Nothing has changed for me. I don't like it, but he can not be totally blamed for fooling around with Alt-Liv. Doesn't he deserve some happiness? Unfortunately, it is a sham right now. And I feel for the guy. But he will become stronger for this. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
I love someone very much, and we have a strong and communicative relationship. However, there was a time when this was not so. Years ago, we called it quits because we were having growing pains. We gave it a try again and now we grow together. It has been difficult at points, but dealing with life together can make people stronger.
The number one problem in relationships, romantic or platonic, is making assumptions. Humans make mistakes, even smart ones. I just hope that the writers have something good in store for Peter, eventually.

let Peter enjoy this moment with Altlivia because sooner or later it will be over... when Olivia comes back everything between them will start from zero... if they resume what was never started... poor kids...
I just imagine this: Olivia and Peter in a lovely situation... very hot... then Olivia says: oh Frank!!!
Peter: Frank??? what the...
Olivia: sorry... itīs my other me who speaks...
Peter: ok, when you are purged of the other you, we talk!!!
hehehe...

I think it is a little bit down to the writers. I mean, Peter must be hurting right now, after being betrayed by both his fathers, Altlivia, his mom killed himself, having to leave his other mother, and having Olivia keep the kidnap from him last season, and on top of that he'll be feeling guilty and stupid, and he still hasn't broken. I think if we were shown more of how Peter was feeling, there wouldn't be so much hate for the character.
I mean, it seems like everyone the guy gets close to lets him down somehow, and he still hasn't gotten really angry. Sure, he might run away to another world now and then, but he still hasn't really gotten visibly mad about what's happen to him.
No one was this mad at Olivia when she didn't notice Charlie had been replaced by a shape shifter, and Charlie and Olivia had been friends so much longer than Peter and Olivia. Peter was just holding on to the little bit of happiness he had in a time when his life basically sucked.
I think if we saw more of how much this had affected Peter, more people might sympathize with the character.

Thank you guys for this thread, the multitude of harsh judgements about Peter puzzle me too. I mean, his world was crushed too and once again within the same year he found out that his life has been a lie. Moreover, the awareness that he hurt Olivia is a terrible burden.
I love both Peter and Olivia as respective, separate characters and as a potential couple. And I don't think that this situation, tragic as it is, requires taking sides.
I just hope she will find it in her heart to forgive him one day and if she does not - well than it wasn't meant to be.

So, stop hating Peter... he is so victim as Oliviaīs in this cruel game... and I think Joanna is right... I am an Oliviaīs supporter and Peter`s supporter too... I can't be totally with one of them when both were in the same situation...
I understand Olivia`s pain, she is in her right of telling Peter what she told and it is better that way because the "it`s ok" is not ok... she had to spoke out what she was feeling inside...
and I uderstand Peter`s pain... he is in his right of feeling guilty and sorry on what has happened... but everything of this is not all his fault... Olivia will eventually understand that and she will forgive Peter and help him to forgive himself, the hardest thing to do...
Olivia needs time to process all what has happened to her... needs time for healing...
Peter is torn but he is brave enough to keep walking because the day he burst in tears it will mean the he`d give up and that is no good...
