Different Crime Solving Capabilities in AU?

Did anyone catch the look that BOlivia made when Broyles used the fingerprint powder to lift prints off the pulse-generating box? She looked as if she did not know what this was.

Also, Joseph Feller seemed also surprised when BOlivia told him that Fringe Division tracked him down - "who are these people?"

I thought the look was mostly cause she knew the fingerprints would track back to one of "her" guys, like "aw sh1t" kinda look

I agree. It seems that somehow there is an underestimation of our team. Which is strange. You'd think that Walternate would have a clue that even though our side is not as technologically advanced in many ways, Walter was smart enough to open the door and steal Peter.

I agree with Capri: they have to know that we are able to use finger print!!!
The shape shifter says "who are does people" because AltLiv says they knows about the replaced piece (polish piece).

That's what I thought as well - as in "who are these people?! They're really freakin good at their job" sort of thing.

I noticed that, too. To me, it seems like unnecessary discussion of an obvious next step: "Dust for prints!" which pragmatically means there was more going on there besides just run-of-the-mill crime scene stuff. My point being that they included the scene to highlight AltLivia's lack of knowledge about how crime solving operates Over Here. It does seem like a pretty bone-headed mistake, like they weren't expected to be traced that way. Over in the AU, I think their people-tracking system is more sophisticated, since you have to present a Show-Me everywhere you go, and there are checkpoints that automatically scan them (Over There, Pt. 2). What I concluded from Olivia's nonplussed reaction to the fingerprinting was that suspect identification has progressed beyond that simple technology Over There, and that she was not prepared to encounter it on this side.

Here I'm imagining what they might use instead. Perhaps a scanner that can detect genetic material anywhere in the room and figure out who left it there: sloughed skin cells, hair, a little bit of perspiration. Ugh, it sounds kinda gross, actually! :P

Alt-Charlie used his handheld scanner to get a fingerprint from the woman victim in "The Plateau". Maybe BOlivia doesn't know her forensic history.

The "Who are these people" was just dumb. That must have been a third-class shapeshifter. Even though he couldn't wear gloves, he could have wiped the outside of the device when he was finished. And if he had to give an address when buying the transistor, he should have known it could therefore be traced and moved immediately thereafter.

Well, thank God shapeshifters are not perfect :D They are machine and sometimes they fail!!!

In "The Plateau" I wondered why they didn't took the fingerprints of the ballpoint pen. It would have been the easiest way to identify the last user. Instead they tried to find the manufacturer of the pens.

I know Charlie used a device to idetify the woman using her fingerprints. But they never took fingerprints from anything lying around. Maybe it's nothing and just due to story writing. But at least it was noticeable.
