Another hiatus.

Darn hiatuses, ruining our Fringe again.

Also, I thought the episode was called "Firefly" not "The Firefly"? No matter of the title, this ep sounds pretty sweet.

Good God! Seems that we're finally gonna have Walter-centric episode! Frankly I missed Walter during the lasts episodes... He was in the shadows almost all the time.
Also it's great that the Observers come into play)

This looks very interesting..... consider the fact that we're going to see 1985 year again...

What about another hiatus.. well, I don't think that we should worry about it. There will be 6 (!) episodes without any pauses! We can only be grateful for this)

I don't mind the shorter waits between episodes. It's the 9 month long waits that are a killer. Though the next two weeks are going to seem like 9 months.

I believe 3.15 is the flashback 85 episode, Orla Brady is listed on the cast as Elizabeth Bishop for that one.

Firefly (3.10) should be the observer-centric episode that Wyman/Pinker have talked about in interviews (though Walter and Joyce's situation figures into that), and September is listed in the cast (well, we knew that from the teasers).

And, yes, at this point I am grateful for 6 straight episodes.:happy15:

Wait, there's going to be another hiatus that's 9 months long?

Two weeks isn't going to be that bad... And what do you mean by nine months? It's not that long to wait until something new starts...

Nope, though it sometimes seems that way.

Returns Jan. 21st, with 6 episodes straight, then a hiatus, then the final 7 episodes of the season.

Then a potential permanent hiatus depending on the Friday ratings.

Don't say that - we must think positive!!!

This additional "hiatus" isn't anything to worry about, I don't think. Most tv series take breaks midway through the second half before they round out the end of their season. Six weeks straight is more than we got in the first half - I'll take it!

Really this just means we get more in the second half than usual, since there were only 10 episodes.

Also - good catch on it being called "The Firefly" now... I wonder if that's a change or an error...

What I hate is the fact that we get hiatus way too oftenly.
Oh and preparing ourselves for the worst, the series beign cancelled, will lessen our displeasure if it is cancelled, but we'll be even more happy if it keeps on going.

I believe in thinking positive, but the reality is that if the show does not perform well on Friday, there is that chance. The show is at a critical crossroad and we all know this. (Which is why I feel the writers should be informed at some time soon, so that they can get the courtesy to wrap up the series and not just leave it dangling. I would assume after the first few Friday airings we'll get an indication).

As for "The Firefly", I've noticed in the past that the Fox press releases seem to be early drafts and things in them change. (i.e. in "Marionette" Roland Barrett's character was called only "The Gentleman" in the press release.).

Yep you're correct - my error...
wishful thinking maybe :)

Yes, but what the hell are we getting another hiatus, FOR?

Sorry, but we're just not used to this in the UK like you guys are and it is driving me seriously nuts. What an appalling way to show a series!

I know. Even in the US most shows don't go on hiatus so many times a season. Maybe for a week or so like on Thanksgiving, but this is just ridiculous!

If they run continuously they'll run out of episodes in early April while the television season traditionally ends in May.

Ops, my bad. You're right. When this spoiler about 1985 was released I subconsciously connected it with the upcoming Firefly episode but after your words I checked IMDB and saw Orla Brady listed for the 15th episode:ashamed0001:

That's not so. Almost every network series fits 22 episodes into 35 weeks. All series used to fill the extra weeks with reruns, but nowadays only the most successful ones do. So, there are always gaps. With the rigid US TV schedule (renewal/pickup in May) and production needs (approx. 10 days filming per hour episode), the only way to do continuous runs is to start in January, as with "24". You then wind up with a double-length hiatus between seasons.

So, just wanted to say that I support this six-episode string as well, because it's better than what Fringe fans have gotten in the past two years.

For the past two years, Fringe has aired ten episodes before the winter break, and then aired only four episodes before a seven-week break between February and April, and then finishing the season. However, this season, Fringe aired nine episodes before the winter break, will air six episodes before another hiatus (which may or may not be shorter than seven weeks this time around), and will then conclude the season to finish in May.

Fringe isn't going to have the same problem as it has had in the past two years, where it takes the seven-week hiatus due to American Idol "needing" the extra hours on Thursday nights for their horrific result shows - it is popularly believed that the result shows are long, boring, drawn out, milked, and completely unnecessary, only infuriating Fringe fans who could be watching the newest chapter in the show.

However, as someone brought up, if we didn't have these hiatuses, the show would end much sooner than it normally would. And if the show started in January, we would then have to wait from May to January to get a new a Fringe fix, instead of May to September.

So, six episodes will take us to the end of February. If 5/20 is the finale, then that should mean a 5-week break before a continuous 7 to the end. If that's how they're handling it.
