Despite my anger/frustration from the episode, and despite the fact that Anna really isn't a "dress" gal as she describes her self, she looked
Amazing in that dress.....

Except really no real compliments except mind-reader Simon told her the tall dude thought she was hot (which is true). Where the heck was Peter?! Shows up late just to say she looks nice in a dress.
Either the episode seemed very rushed at key moments or I am just not digging the flow of 312.

I felt the exact same way about the episode. But....she was in the dress....soo torn...

And she was probably thinking- Peter liked her in the dress because she was like Fauxlivia and he liked Fauxlivia. So- mistake again Peter.

Yes!! And Peter all dressed up in the same room with her!? That scene was WAY too short. All this dumb crap needs to end soon so we can get some good *real* P/O moments. lol

My question is how long did it take for Olivia to put this look together :haha:? We already know that the fundraiser started 30mins ago when the team was at the farm/barn so they had to speed back to Boston, Olivia had to get changed and head to the party...the girl's efficient.

^ Don't think that Kiss will happen for a long time. Also Anna Torv looked killer in that Dress!

Well i'll risk being bashed, but Olivia in the dress tonight...well meh..first of all she looked like she used the same make up as in her role in ,,Pacific,, ,totally 1940's.I mean the lipstick duh!!She looks much better without it.The dress on the other hand wasn't so bad,but....
Did we ever see Fauxlivia wear a dress? Or Peter ever express some preferences for his lady to wear a dress? Just asking, b/c I don't get why Olivia even brought dress-wearing up to Nina at the start of the episode unless the writers are trying to manipulate us into feeling BAD for Olivia b/c Peter said she looked great in a dress. *confused*

I don't remember Faulivia in a dress- but she could have written about it. But yes, I think the dress was meant to cause more friction about Fauxlivia.
And the lipstick- I think they were trying to take us back to Brown Bettty-it just stood out so much.

Like someone else said, I am just not a fan of bright red lipstick. It seems so .... early 90s or something. Anna Torv is perfect without lipstick.. and when they put red lipstick on her.. it's like covering a beautiful car with glue and glitter. Absolutely ruins it.

Why should we feel bad for Olivia. She really looked great in a dress and Peter was being honest about it (did you notice how Peter looked after he said it to her) and maybe she took it as a compliment. Why should everything Olivia finds out about Fauxlivia always have to be bad for Olivia?

She looked good in the dress, true, But she looks WAY HOTTER with a ponytail and one of those FBI jackets :)
But that's just me. And Fauxlivia always dressed better!
The one compliment Peter gives her, and it wouldn't make her feel any better at all! She and Fauxlivia look the same, so Peter should stop complimenting Olivia on her looks and more on her personality.

She looked so hot in that dress! I think Olivia looks better with her hair down. But red lipstick is not really her thing. It's like black lipstick: it only looks good on some persons.

The thing is he can't compliment on what he doesn't enjoy... I mean, he enjoys her personality, but he prefers Fauxlivia's. I'm sure of it.

About the lipstick... (canīt believe that I am so bored that I actually write a comment about makeup:haha:)
No, itīs not her thing. But we all know that Olivia (unlike Faux) is not the type of woman who has fancy dresses in her wardrobe and the same should be the case for beauty products. So she wouldnīt invest a huge amount of consideration into which kind of lipstick would look good on her - would she?

I think the lipstick made her look lovely. Reminded me of South Pacific. Personally, I think Alt-Olivia, and her tendency to wear makeup as Fauxlivia, made her slightly more attractive than how Olivia usually dresses, which all in all does little to accent her femininity. Yes, Olivia looks lovely the way she dresses. But seriously. A little make-up wouldn't hurt, woman!
XD My dad was like "Uh, yeah, Olivia? Could you try being a little more lovable? The world literally depends on it..."

Okay, Peter has never seen Olivia in a dress nor has he seen her as dressed up and when she does and peter compliments her, he is a bad guy? Heaven forbid that a man compliments a woman on how good she looks without looking like a sexist jerk.
Would people yell at him if he didn't say anything about her look?

The problem is Oliviaīs current state of mind: She is insecure about Peter and thinks that he liked Fauxlivia better, because she was more "fun" etc. Yes, Peter never saw her in a dress, and in his world the compliment is innocent. But in Oliviaīs world (she knows that Fauxlivia has dresses in her wardrobe) it is one more twisted proof that he would prefer Faux. So itīs not that Peter is a jerk, but the compliment hurts, because it produces the wrong associations and conclusions.
And no, Peter has done nothing wrong (except for the coffee lol), itīs Oliviaīs fault: Although Nina recommended her to confront him and set things straight with a good talk, she ignores that and even reads Simonīs note.
Canīt see any Peter-bashing here...

But does Peter KNOW that she wears dresses? Of all the times I have watched this show, there was never a moment where Fauxlivia ever wore a dress.

I'm sure if Fauxlivia didn't show up and Olivia wore that dress, Peter would have said it anyways cause there is no way a man with two good eyes wouldn't compliment on how Olivia looked. She was beautiful.
BTW, Olivia didn't have to wear that dress, you know. She could have wore what she normally wore (but since this is a fundraiser, it makes total sense for Olivia to wear a dress) so don't be blaming Peter.
Walteristic!

I don't see any reason why everybody's so worked up. That's Peter. He knows he has to be carefull around her, so he (slightly) complimented her, just like he always does. He knows he can't push her too much or she'll break.
Plus he didn't even know Olivia mentioned the dress to Nina or anything, i think he was just being nice.

Watch the episode again.
Watch her reaction to the comment.
They cut away from it, but there's a definite smile on her face . . . in the context of her character, that's a big thing. Watching the episode a second time really gives you a chance to catch what the writers are doing, there's some stuff that doesn't work, but there's also a lot of subtlety in 3.12

SO 30 minutes into a threatening situation where a government member could have his bones melted- and they take time to get dressed up!!!! Come on!! and why was peter waiting on the sidelines??? made no sense. the writers are really sloppy about timelines etc...can't imagine the actors like that. Don't they have a script supervisor? That's a job i've done in my past, and I'd never let slip some of the stuff that's been happening recently. They did look great dressed up- but COME ON- move it on!!

I assume they were dressed like that so they could move among the guests without alerting the men they were after. As to when they had the time...ghrr...Fringe has been playing fast-and-loose with time for a while. They make it seem like everywhere from woods of Vermont to Boston to NYC is a 10-minute drive! :haha:

Does it really matter why they were dressed like that?
I mean, mj07 is right ...they were trying to blend in...
But even if there was no need for them to be all dressed up, I'm still thankful to them and to the writers for that!

they look totally gorgeous dressed up...all dressed up and nowhere to go....but what I really HATED was the hokey way the 'you look nice in a dress' scene was directed. First of all Simon is left in a twitching heap at the bottom of the stairs alone, while Liv, who has hung on to him and looked after him sits apart at table awaiting the coffe cup cue...looked completely naff .and then at the end to both of them are lef t a bit eggy as it pans to quivering Simon- who doesn't get a cup of coffee, or any acknowledgment of his suffering...there was an exchange of looks between simon and walter which could have a multitude of interesting meanings..was he reading walters mind about Peter??? And did this mean he lied to protect Liv in the note? or was he reading peters mind- that dress would have been inducing other thoughts than he still had feelings for Ho-livia me thinks..
really this and the nina/sam scenes were not very good either in the writing or execution...

Slightly off topic, but I was also wondering if that look between them meant something more than just an apologetic Walter... To me it looked like Walter said/asked something (with his thoughts) of Simon and Simon nodded in return. Now if only I could read minds and save me all that guessing :haha:

I'm not sure if anybody remembered The dreamscape but in the very beginning, we saw Olivia in a dress. She was even wearing high heels, had her hair down and wore earrings. so, not sure why Olivia was saying how AU-olivia wore dresses when I'm sure Olivia had that black dress somewhere in her closet unless she threw that away when the cortexiphan storyline kicked in. :haha:

I'd say that half the guys at the Museum of Fine Arts would be eyeing Olivia , thus Simon would have heard that message numerous times. Trust me on this ... that museum is a huge pick up joint in town :happy15:

Yes, she and friends were throwing a surprise party, for a guy named Greg
It wouldnt seem that Fauxlivia is the kinda girl who wear dresses...so I dont know what's with Liv...right now she's thinkin' that Fauxlivia's better than anyone!
But, happy and cheerful and smiley as Fauxlivia is, she's not more girly than Olivia
I find Olivia more delicate...

Meh, its in a woman's nature to feel inferior to those with "more" than us. Believe me I should know. Imagine having a 5'9 sister while you are only 5'0 and the oldest. :haha:

Maybe she does, but I dont know you see Faux and she doesnt look too girly
Or maybe it's just the impression I get from the alternate Fringe Division's uniform...you know, the cargo pants, and those boots....
The whole reception scene was not put together well. At first, Broyles said that the reception 'started half an hour ago'. Then, they show up all dressed, Olivia w/ make up and hairdo, just as the guy is ready to attack. Peter was also dressed, in case he's needed. How long did that take, on top of driving to the location? Simon does not look like the kind of guy to own a tux, and neither does Peter.
It just seemed a bit rushed.

I thought that as I was watching this episode. Let it go simply because of how hot Olivia looked as well Peter coming in with his undone bowtie *swoon*
