This is just a guess but maybe in the current timeline Peter going into the machine somehow causes destruction in the Red universe and the people in the red universe get transferred to the blue universe.

If not then the simple way of explaining all this is the yellow universe, but that's too obvious and I want the writers to surprise us.

I think what Peter saw was one possible future. One of the possible futures that are happening simultaneously.

Remember what the observer told Walter:

"Various possible futures are happening simultaneously. I can tell you all of them, but I cannot tell you which one of them will come to pass.."

    HERE, THERE, EVERYWHERE..

I totally agree. This probably veers more into speculation-land, but from what we saw in the promo for next week, I have to wonder if we're not seeing more than one possible future outcome, not one single certain future. The machine can create or destroy, so maybe while in it, he's seeing all the possibilities that can be created for his future?

That plaque and the to-be-built Freedom Tower were pretty unsubtle signs that we're in the Blue Universe, since the Red Universe establishing shots have very frequently shown the WTC in them.

    Default Married Peter

In the final shots of the episode before Peter passed out, there seems to be a gold wedding band on his left ring finger, that briefly came into view.

My theory is that he flashed forward to a possible future Blueverse where he and Olivia married. The disaster/plaque there however is also a consequence of him having chosen the Blueverse somehow?

I think it's unlikely it is related to a Yellowverse for now, as it would be be too sudden an introduction, lacking continuity of plot development.

    Very Good point EllieL
Beside that I think that Peter is in the Purpelverse, see what I mean? because it's obvious in the finale promo

In the preview for next week, we are told that the year is 2026.
That number is found on the police-car when Olivia and Sam are talking to Christine Albright outside the museum:
