There have been lots of 'hints' that redverse is on the metric system
[First post here, but I had to say something about this ...]
The posted gas price in this episode (right before we see Mother and daughter at the gas station) is ".99" for "Regular Unleaded".
I'm not quite sure whether this counts as a gaff or not, since it's the Alternate Universe, so why *not* 99¢ a gallon? But Fringe shoots in Vancouver, Canada. Canadian gas prices are per liter, not per gallon (there are about 4 liters to a US gallon).
So, it's likely a Canadian price that the production crew didn't correct.
But, intentional or not, I know which universe I'm filling up in ...

So converted back to the imperial system the Fringe price is actually 3.96 a gallon. Still cheaper then the 135.7 (1 dollar 35 cents point 7) a liter (in gallons = 5.428 so round it to 5.43 a gallon) we are currently paying in Vancouver! :-(
(I checked, and the exact conversion is 3.7854 Liters per/US Gallon.)... The 99¢ price *might* have been current when they shot the scene.
Bottom line: we all gotta figure a way to get cars over there!
While we're on the subject of cars, did it bother anyone else that everyone seemed to be driving around in 2011 model vehicles in 2026?

Haha I never noticed it, but that's probably because I'm from Canada and although, it's definitely not that cheap right now it has been before so I guess I didn't even think about it when I saw it. I remember back like 10-15 years ago it was like 70 cents a liter.
gas hasnt been .99/L for quite some time here in canada.. so that pricing was probably intentional
After everyone's feedback here, some thought (and replaying the shot a few times), I'm inclined to agree with you here. The ".99" dominates the frame at the start of the shot ... the price is *so* dominant, it *has* to be intentional.
The machine can create worlds, so maybe it made huge oil deposits, driving down the price of oil?
Or maybe the fact they use zeppelins reduces their reliance on oil
