Peter was savoring the moment of finally being back with his family. He wondered how they had finally managed to remember his and were actually communicating! He saw Walter’s gaze turn to Olivia, his eyes lighting up in the process.

“Olivia, aren’t you going to let Peter in on the wonderful news?”

Peter wondered what this ‘wonderful news’ was. He’d seen Olivia whispering something into Walter’s ear, but he’d been mum about it. Which was unusual for Walter. He turned to her and saw a smile on her face he’d never seen before.

“I know this may come as a surprise to you but, I think congratulations are in order: daddy.”

He about fell out of his chair as Olivia pulled out a black and white photo from her pocket. The almost shy smile never left her face. Handing it to him, her smile grew bigger.

“When was this taken?”

Olivia was smiling from ear to ear now. She was glowing. A different smile was adorning her face now.

“Yesterday. I wanted to keep it my own sweet little secret for a day before I let the cat out of the bag. I had to swear Walter to secrecy. You know him, he can’t keep a secret.”

Peter had almost become overwhelmed with emotion. This was his family. He would do everything in his power to protect his new family. Walter being the doting grandfather, though they’d have to watch him, he would likely want to teach their son or daughter the ‘basics of making LSD’. Walter came over towards him with the waffle iron with determination written on his face.

“Don’t worry son, I’ll get this machine working. I’ll just have to make-do for now.”

With a clang the waffle iron hit the floor, sending Peter into shock and startling him awake, shattering the most perfect dream he’d ever had. Grabbing the machine schematics he knew where he had to go, and who he had to find.

“Walter.”

The End
