A wormhole equations sounds like a reasonable explanation, although a wormhole would not necessarily be defying physics...

The better question is why was the music important to wormhole research?

Good question...here is my theory: Music is the harmonic representation of mathematics. After all, it is said that mathematics is the language that God used to create the universe.
Once the mathematic code has been broken down by way of computations or via a musical arrangement of audible chords you then have the weapon or instrument required to create your rift in the physical world. In this case, the safe itself has now become the point in which a controlled local event horizon has been manifested. Thus, allowing Loeb to transfer his hand through the wall of unstable atoms thus retrieving the apple.

Side Note: Nikola Tesla (creator of the electric age and the Father of Physics) created a concept in which a machine could be created that would mimic and increase the harmonic signature of any object. Known as “The Multiple Wave Oscillator”. Thus, braking down the molecular components of the object. Someone could have taken his idea to another level to manifest the creation of a harmonic distortion field (aka Event Horizon) to create such an outcome. Tesla was also noted as delving into what was known then as “pseudoscience” which is known today as Fringe Science.

So solving the song was just a "double check" of the equation solved by one of the previous abducted "experts?" That seems reasonable. Surely you would not want to redefine the laws of physics without being sure you had your equations right...

Could this be why music speaks to us so universally and creates such emotion, as it is the language allows us to connect back to God's creation and in turn, back to ourselves. Of course the more 'harmonic', the better. Though as you said, it can be used as an instrument..a weapon to create 'rifts' and open doorways that should only be opened in our minds-eye.

It's certainly interesting to consider that what we saw in The Equation was a form of 'coroboration'. So Loeb might not be such a dare-devil afterall.

I hope that they haven't just pasted together mumbo-jumbo, although we might have to allow them creative license in this instance.

Hopefully someone adept in mathematics can chime in and shed some light on what the eqution means (if anything).

I mean, how did the woman make the boy's song into an equation?

Also, I don't think they used the boy to "double-check" the equation.
IMO, they missed something, just like the show says.
I think "they" DO have spare lives to test the equation, so they wouldn't have gone thru all that just to double-check it.
