hmm...william bell, walter bishop..WB?? anybody remember Peter finding the alias to the antagonist in episode 8 in order to find the little piano man? perhaps Bishop & Bell have a relationship? can anyone link the two or am I just way overboard on the theories that JJ Abrams is teasing us with?

No, I definitely thought the same thing, but I can't think of a simple connection between Bell and Bishop.

I think it's way too convenient for Bishop to be Bell. It's true they have the same initials, and clearly the forums are leaning that direction. But I think the connection between the two is a different one.

Remember in the Arrival when the Rogue was torturing Peter for the location of the Beacon? He got the information out of Peter's brain because Peter was related to Walter, and Walter had hidden the Beacon. So, somehow there was a genetic link between the two's brains that in a sense, allowed the two to read each other's minds unknowingly. Walter knew of this ability because of his prior research.

Another way to be inside each other's heads was to be synaptically linked to each other like when Olivia was linked to John. This left a "residue" in Olivia of John.

We see yet another way to be linked in the Fringe comic books. Seemingly unrelated people can swap conciousness (the couple in Littleton and the convict, the kosmonaut, etc). Also, when Bell was hooked up to the lab rat for a moment, he was able to draw memories from the rat of Walter.

Now, I say all of this, becasue who else do we know that is linked to Walter and Peter besides Bell --- and I mean linked in a special "conciousness and memory" type way? We know Nina knew them both, but she has not exhibited a linkage with them in memory or conciousness. No, the one person who has exhibited a linkage to their memory or conciousness is the Observer

Remember, the Observer is mostly just observing, not interferring. Yet he personally saved both Peter and Walter in a car accident in their past. Why would he have such a personal interest in their continued existence? And how is it that the Observer was able to "know Walters thoughts like he was inside his head", the same trait he also exhibited with Peter at the cemetary? He even sat down and spoke with Walter at the restaurant! He hasn't done this with any of the other characters yet (that we know of). I believe he is able to do this not just because he is able to traverse space-time (apparently), but because he has been hooked up to Walter and/or Peter in the past (synaptically or residually). I believe this most likely happened when Walter and Bell were experimenting, because I think the Observer is most likely Bell.

Now, he may not physically be Bell. I think it's probable that Bell cloned himself many times over (many Observers), and each one is an incomplete Bell ------- much like clone Walter is an incomplete Walter Prime. Another idea is that they are not clones at all, but they are all the same person existing in different time threads overlapping at the same time (quantum theory and string theory?) Regardless, I think the Observer is Bell, and he is either trying to prevent some future events from happening, or he is trying to ensure some future events WILL happen --- or maybe a little bit of both.

    Thoughts anyone?

    Wow Fringeling...love your insights.

My question about the Observer being a clone of William Bell and traveling through time-space would be this...

    WHY DOESN'T HE AGE?

A clone is still human in every way, isn't he? The only way around that would be if even though he has been seen at all these different moments in time, only a short period of time has actually passed for him, because he looks exactly the same age in every photograph on the wall in the Observer room.

At this point, I think I must bring up the point of HG Wells. Someone said in the Secret Message thread that the strange groupings seen around St. Claire's could possibly be Braille for HG. Now, while I love thinking that I figured it out (the musical notation), I can't help but think this would be just the sort of thing that Abrams would do to incorporate time travel, since HG Wells is the well-known author of the Time Machine.

Ok...this may be totally stretching, but HG Wells also wrote a book called "The Soul of a Bishop" (source: http://www.online-literature.com/wellshg/)
This probably has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but I thought it was an interesting connection.

    From http://www.dictionary.com:

    bishop
O.E. bisceop, from L.L. episcopus, from Gk. episkopos "watcher, overseer,"

Just thought that was interesting. Can't find anything attaching/linking Bishop to Bell though.

    Sorry for my randomness!

It's just as good an idea as any, there certainly are interesting connections (maybe I'm jaded because the Time Machine was my favorite movie as a kid. The morlocks reminded me of smurfs on Steroids !)

And about the Observer not aging, there could be many "Fringe" reasons he doesn't age. What if he is existing primarily by creating a wormhole or event horizon around himself? He technically might not age from our standpoint while time continues to pass for us. Now, in theory he would continually ripped to pieces before our very eyes if we could see this (I think), but if he found a way around this that's something to consider. Maybe !
