Default In Which We Meet Mr. Jones(Rewatch/Speculation & Analysis)

Glyph Code: CODES (An allusion to the Glyph Codes? Perhaps a hint at the equation in the next episode? Maybe Little Hill was planned as a code word of some kind, but ended up being an actual place later.)

    What Weighed Seven Pounds?

Broyles: "Weight of the container after pickup was 1306 pounds. The weight when it arrived in Germany before shipping, 1299. That's seven pounds. What the hell weighs seven pounds?"

My thinking was that it was the holding cage, probably jar with the parasite inside of it that amounted to seven pounds, Loeb must have taken it during his raid in Germany, that would explain the wait difference.

What was Loeb REALLY doing in Germany?

Broyles: "Agent Loeb returned from an operation last week in Frankfort, Germany.

This is what we know about Germany: Jones is being held in a prison in Frankfort. (Another attack with the amber happened in Prague and Morgan Steig was on a flight from Hamburg to Boston) one not too far from Germany, the other a city in Germany. Hmm.) Perhaps he was infected with the parasite in Germany, not directly by Jones, but by other people working for Jones on the outside(Remember the lawyer, basically his eyes, ears and hands while he in prison? He could definitely rely information to others working for Jones.) or ZFT. Jones is well connected, even in prison he has influence on the outside world. So basically I think it was Jones, in conjunction with people on the outside and Loeb, who planned the entire bait and switch plan.

Who Funded Z.F.T. and the Other Terror Cells?

Broyles: "What we’ve learned so far is the following: There are cells – we don’t know how many. Privately funded with presence in eighty-three recorded countries. Z.F.T. is among them."

More importantly, who has enough money to fund so many cells? Which company do we know has tons of money at their disposal who is also the leading provider of scientific research? Massive Dynamic. Who own Massive Dynamic? William Bell. I'm gonna say, it's the old bell ringer who funded these terror cells.

Nina: "Massive Dynamic is one of the ten largest economic entities in the world. Our weapons technologies shape the Defense Department's strategies. Our investments sway the markets and make or break presidential elections. Overseas, we have responsibilities traditionally sacred to the state. The right to direct private armies, to manage global affairs into stable equilibrium. "

    Olvia: "Maybe." (hehe)

Why was Walter experimenting on Peter?

"Everyone has a unique tolerance to electrical stimulatino. Mine for instance is remarkably high, your remarkably low Peter."

(Is this because Peter is not from this universe?)

    Walter: "I was collecting data."

Peter: "No, you were experimenting on me."

(He experimented on him see if he was physically healthy from crossing over probably.)

    Peter: "...."

    (^Made meh laugh.)

    John's Loyalty

DRJ: "The people I work with are loyal till the end. Can you say the same?"

(Did he know John? It stands to reason that he did, given that John was in Z.F.T. Perhaps he knew that John was not loyal, given how John is in the NSA investigating Z.F.T. He simply could have been just trying to get to Olivia, by suggesting that John was not loyal to her. )

Hmm. That makes sense-the item weighting seven pounds was probably the unit with the organism inside it.

Well this is a bit of a love letter, huh.

What a great episode. I want to know who did the favor for the show by having Billy Burke play Olivia's hot ex-boyfriend, but never bring him back. *huff*

That dank German prison. Man I loved that show. And the Fringe science! Messing with the dead man's brain. And Peter only seeing lines that appeared in one direction. Because of the frikkin' brain damage.

*singin' softly* Me and Mr. Jone----ho, ho, Hones. We got a Thiiiiiiiiiiiiing Goin' Oo-on, *g*

I adored that "Feed me Seymour" heart parasite. Mitchell Loeb with his chest splayed open, just inside some kind of portable hyperbaric chamber. *sigh*

This one, "Safe", "Ability", and "There's More than One of Everything" were the jewels of the crown of the First Season. *smile*
"It's horrible and deranged. But you have to agree, it's really quite ingenius." Walter, "Worlds Apart"

I was just watching this episode again, and I liked Peter's line about wishing he could flip a switch and turn Walter into "the man I wish had raised me." It stood out, considering what we know now.

I still wonder, was he working with Bell at this point? Was ZFT always answering to Bell?

there are contradicting things especially since the timeline changed

even more contradicting since september stated that jones' plan was the same as before

that would lead you to believe that bell was up to no good in the original timeline also

i have no evidence that bell was diabolical during s1-3, in fact he seemed genuine

    ---

no sense in trying to connect things, the whole zft nonsense was just something they ran with when they were emersed in s1.. they broght it back up in s3 just as a callback

Thanks Dolemite, that's encouraging.....However, you are sort of right, I'm starting to think what I'm doing is a fruitless endeavor, seeing as if the final season sucks, analyzing all the episodes really won't fix anything. Plus, it honestly takes a lot of time and I have just lost my motivation lately to continue this.

I don't think its fruitless at all; The producers have specifically stated that Season 5 relies on *all 4* earlier seasons and they have *specifically shown* that S4 events parallel S1 events. Bell and MD were always shady in S1 and all the jobs were based on Walter and Bell's old work. Bell was in hiding and vague, playing both sides; We didn't see anything of Bell being "genuine" until *after* the DRJ plans were derailed, and we also don't know if there was some kind of "anti-Observer" plan at work in both S1 and S4. Rather than looking for contradictions, I think it would be wise to look for connections and assume that in some ways, things are exactly the same. Nu-Bell had Observer technology. There is something huge going on here. ZFT experiments had connections to MD as well at times; ZFT was activating the cortexi-kids, which was Bell's plan; DRJ was shown to be Bell's right hand man. I think all of this fits into the S1 dialogue.

You have a point there. Don't worry, I'm not going to stop re-watching, just had a small moment of doubt for myself earlier. I am just going to take a little break from it for a bit. I'M STILL DOING THE RECAPS.
