Ok, I'll have to post more composed opinions a lil later, but I will say that i was VERY impressed with the episode. It opened well and still suprised me, even though I thought it wouldn't reallt draw me in that quickly. It wasn't quite up there with the opening scene in LOST's pilot, but then I watched Lost completely unsuspecting, whereas I had ALOT of expectation for Fringe..so it was a very good opening, and the special effects blew me away. $10mil?..no kidding!! The special effects/CGI etc in this episode are some of the best i've seen on TV.

The Olivia/John relationship thing was a bit wooden, but it got better with alot of subterfuge..and the chemistry between Peter and Olivia was good. It certainly became more palatable once I saw the ending and what happens between Olivia and John.

John Noble as Walter is amazing. It must be a really tough, yet fun role to play, and he was totally convinving - funny, mad, zaney, brilliant, compassionate, passionate..he's my favourite character so far.

I also loved the relationship between him and Peter..alot better than i thought it would be. I should also add that Peter, played by Joshua Jackson was miles better than i feared he would be. After watching the sneak peaks and trailers, I was worried that he was badly miscast..not on your life..JJ knows his stuff and the other 'JJ' was very good..perhaps a bit too aware of himself, but still, very good.

Lance Reddick is the man..what else is there to say? The man has so much weight and screen presence..getting him onboard was a master-stoke. I do hope it doesn't conflict with his work on LOST, but this man is one heck of an actor. I also love his relationship with Olivia..spikey and antagonistic..but in the end of this episodee roles change slightly, and I like the fact that he's eager to get Olivia in the 'loop', as they say.

Overall, the episode really zipped along, although it laboured in places, and perhaps could have done with more pacing in spots..however i'm being picky, and as a Lost fan i'm used to both quick and slow burning episodes (just not all in the same episode ). But I love the tone of this show..even the opening credits blew me away.

I'm not saying it's the best thing i've ever seen on TV..but seriously..this show as immense potential and it can go places where I want TV to go. It's certainly one of the best things i've seen on TV in along while (barring the always brilliant episodes of Lost)..it wasn't perfect, but if this is just the fringe of things to come..well, i'm glad I signed up!

They didn't even bother to get native germans to do the talking in the plane scene, which is cheap. Otherwise I enjoyed it.

Yeah, I thought there was something 'off' with those accents. I'm no expert on German accents by any means, but it didn't quite sound right. Although I guess they could argue that they weren't supposed to be native German accents? I don't know.

    ------------

I've given the pilot somemore thought and I especially like where they could go with this Massive Dynamics (is that what they're called?) company. It's always good to have a shadowey organisation in the mix, but I think this really has potential as it gives us a grey area that we'll no doubt find out more about as the show progresses.

Nina sharp is also an interesting one - her robotic hand reveal is very interesting..as were the special effects (not perfect, but good enough in my view). I like the backstory behind the hand also..the fact that she had Cancer and her life was saved by William Bell's technology.

Oh, and does anyone get the feeling that John might not be as bad as it looked? Right before he died, he seemed to be warning Olivia..

I've been excited for Fringe ever since I first heard of it. I love pretty much everything JJ Abrams has been involved with - Alias, Lost, Mission Impossible III, Cloverfield... and Star Trek doesn't look too bad either.

I heard that the pilot was leaked and I was so happy I downloaded it immediately. I loved it. The characters are interesting, the plot is intriguing and it's got a bunch of weird ass science... which I love.

I can't wait to see more of the show and I hope Fox doesn't cancel it, as this looks like it could be my new favourite show.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this here as it concerns the leaked pilot, so I'll put it in white text:

Is this "Prometheus Corporation" now called "Massive Dynamics"? Or are we going to see more mysterious organizations showing up in Fringe?

Massive Dynamics huh? That's odd, I do a search for it and get link to forums discussing transformers 2, what's the deal? Are they going to do a marketing campaing inside of fringe for Trans2? Supposedly Massive Dynamics is going to be the company responsible for bringing back the decepticons, at least as far as I can tell.

That is... intriguing. I presume it's just a coincidence - actually, I hope it's just a coincidence. I like Transformers well enough, but I don't want it interacting with my TV shows.

Apparently it was titled the Prometheus Corporation in the original script but it was titled Massive Dynamics in the pilot. I presume it will continue to be called Massive Dynamics in the rest of the show. I actually prefer the name Prometheus Corporation. I wonder why they did change it?

You're right, prometheus corp. is much better, but we will see how it goes. I hope it has nothing to do with transformers but from the sound of what the corporation is, it definitely could, especially since the autobots and decepticons technology would fit right snug into the fringe science category.
