    Default Highlights and Observations

So we've all just finished watching this wonderful episode, discussing it live here on the forum (I wish I could have done that more), and I think there should be a thread for highlights detected on initial impact.

Father-son scenes: When Peter tells Walter that he built the audio device for him. I thought this was a very good scene. Their relationship has developed a lot throughout the season and it's great to finally see them bond like they did in this episode. Also worthy of a mention is the restaurant scene at the end where Peter showed concern for Walter.

Harris revealed: This was something I never expected. Harris seemed to be a by-the-book agent who would serve as an annoying obstacle to the main characters and then eventually have to sacrifice himself to help them, but they made him a mole instead, which is just as good. Does him working for ZFT give more weight to him investigating Fringe Division? Did he ever give them a head-start when Olivia was about to raid a building? There's a lot to think about here.

Observer scene: What can I say? We all saw this in the preview and it was done perfectly. Everything is all set for what's bound to be a great season finale.

Yeup most definitely. After Olivia escaped from the warehouse where she was spinally injected it seemed that Harris was manipulating multiple facets of the investigation and it wouldn't surprise me if he was the one that got the place cleaned up so quickly (via others, obviously he wasn't there himself with a mop bucket and gloves...although that might make a good photoshop inspirational poster).

I would second all of those, and add Nina coming to see Broyles. I felt just like the people turning their heads as she passed with that "Huh?" look on their faces. And then when she showed up at his house with the folder full of photos of September! Awesome! So...what happened the last time he was seen with such frequency, do you think?"

Great thinking. That actually makes a lot of sense now.

Hehe, well the first thought that comes to mind was Peter's project, the thing that has been spoken about with great mystery on these very forums... epic! All kidding aside, that was an emotionally moving scene. Walter and Peter have come such a long way since the first episode, if only life were like a tv show...

Finally we get our first glimpse of an alternate universe. So many theories and people converge on this simple topic it's insane. The whole, who's working for who debacle is starting to lose some of its meaning in my opinion. Walter's description of how the timeline isn't linear made me think, since the timeline can split at any point based on the decisions of any individual, wouldn't that make the timeline massively dynamic? I think I'm on to something...

Oh boy, was I suprised about Harris. I mean, I know he was far from a nice guy, but really, I didn't figure he was all that significant. Oh well, I won't miss him...

All in all, plenty of answers, plenty of questions, in other words a perfect episode!
    Walter: Oh!
    Olivia: What?! What happened?
    Walter: I just pissed myself!
    Peter: Excellent...
    Walter: Just a squirt...

Default Spoiler alert: Walter's memory issues

Walter seems genuinely to struggle with memory issues. But when the Observer shows up at the lab at the episode's conclusion and announces to Walter, who is alone, 'it is time,' Walter seems wistful and regretful, but not surprised nor troubled, and responds by getting his coat and leaving with the Observer. So Walter has not revealed things he already knows/remembers? Earlier episode with the 'baby Observer' would have been a good time to reveal some knowledge. "it is time" also seems to indicate that Walter knows more about coming events for which the children had been prepared? Anyway, in promo photos for next week's episode we see Walter talking with Peter, so wherever the Observer is taking Walter, it isn't for good, or a kidnapping/coercive type event.

I genuinely think that Walter doesn't remember what is coming, but he knows that something is coming. Like he told Olivia they were training the children because something terrible was coming. When he found the Chapter of Ethics and the Observer arrived he was reading about how children were the future and must be protected. If Bell wrote the ZFT it doesn't seem like he would then turn around and conduct experiments on children. Walter knows more than he lets others believe, but he still doesn't know it all. You can imagine how frustrating that must be for him -- to have holes in your memory. Holes that are crucial to helping a hurt Olivia or saving countless lives.

Oh boy, tell me about it! I was, like, "whaaaaaaaaaaaat, oh snap!" when he picked up the phone.

And when he went the way of the bacon Mom and I started cheering cuz we'd been hoping he'd be blown up.

I totally LUVED the way Olivia reacted after she saw Harris go all Final Destination. She was almost smiling as she was telling the sister "It's okay, everything is okay ..." She had ZERO problem with his demise

I wonder what a burning doosh smells like anyway ?
