I actually really like this theory! And I'll agree that Astrid is "suspicious", but I can't quite swallow that she's an Observer.

I can see her having the same sort of mind meld/hive mind abilities, and I can imagine her developing them further, and then mind melding with an Observer at some point, and having her mind blown as she taps in the Global Overmind or some such and gets flooded with information, which might change her in interesting ways. Maybe like Observer Lite.

After the finale though, I'm no longer very sure they are going this way with her character. They seem to be intent on giving her some kind of power like telepathy - I think she is capable of joining in a hive mind when she is around others like her.* Over the next season, my guess is that we'll see her melding more and more with Walter. This is an ability that I think she might have in common with the Observers, though she isn't an Observer.

Further wild speculation: Overall, one of the themes of the show is the evolution of the human race. We have the First People who had natural powers like the cortexikids, the Second People who are people like us without those natural powers, and Observers who are perhaps the Third People, what the human race will eventually become. Astrid, Peter and Olivia perhaps represent the first examples of Second People (us) evolving into the Third People.

*In "Inner Child" it was Astrid who was able to guess correctly what the child was thinking when no one else could. Another clue?
I think you're on to something. I'm gonna go watch these episodes again and check back. I think she is working for someone else for sure. She's a damn spy.

I never thought of that before but could very well be true, very interesting point made about Inner Child. I'm sure someday we'll find out!
