    Thanks, AAA!
I'm surprised at how quickly it's coming up. Only three days away! I was working on 2.06 today, and I think I'm doing pretty good. I thought it was funny how Season 1 never had any mention of Kyle's family, or their homes.

It's time for that to change.

In order to make up for the lost easteregg hunt, I thought I'd post the season premiere a day early!

    First let's review.

Four teenagers have been abducted by a man named Brian Halo and have been brought to a strange building called the Stratagem, which is also the name of the organization that inhabits it. The teenagers are Kyle Fischer, Anna Jackson, Andrew Clementine, and Matthew Broadstone, four friends that now find themselves in a dangerous problem.

The story follows Kyle, who wakes up in the Stratagem, but does not remember anything. He is being questioned about his dreams by Dr. Jacob Turner, the Stratagem's head of surgery and medical procedures. Kyle eventually meets John Griffin, the Stratagem's fourth-in-command. Matthew Broadstone escapes and frees Kyle from his cell; but during their escape, the two friends become seperated.

Kyle goes on to find Anna, and he soon gets a chance to take her and escape. But before he can do that, someone finds him: Brian Halo. In a spur of fear and anger, Kyle kills Halo with Halo's own gun. He check's Halo's heartbeat. Halo is dead, for sure. Kyle takes Anna, and leaves. During his escape he encounters Turner, and convinces Turner to lead them out of the Stratagem.

While Turner is doing this, Griffin finds them and chases them. Turner is accidentally shot, and Kyle and Anna leave him. They flee Griffin, when suddenly the loudspeaker comes on in the Stratagem, and someone named Robert Gage introduces himself as the leader of the Stratagem, responsible for their capture. He states that he has not placed them in danger; in fact, he has saved them from the others. He tries to convince them over loudspeaker to give up and turn themselves in. But Kyle and Anna don't listen. They continue their escape and eventually find an exit.

Meanwhile, Matthew Broadstone stumbles upon Andrew Clementine. During his rescue attempt, he is caught by John Griffin. Gage orders Matt and Andy to be brought to him; but before Griffin can fill out those orders, Matt and Andy rebel, knocking Griffin unconscious. They both escape, searching for a way out of the Stratagem. While doing so, they meet someone who was waiting for them around a corner.

The man waiting for them wears a neat suit and has combed chestnut hair. He says his name is Brian Halo, and he has come to help them. He instructs Matt and Andy to go to an internet cafe on Boxer Street in Boston; once they do that, they should research Robert Gage. He gives them money, turns a corner, and then mysteriously disappears.

While all of this has been happening, Special Agent Olivia Dunham and her FBI buddies have been investigating the case of the four missing teenagers. What she knows is this: the four friends were attending Barack Obama's inauguration when they went missing, their recovered camera from the event contains a strange photo of a man holding a syringe with the words "MASSIVE DYNAMIC" on it, and she needs to question Nina Sharp. Sharp claims that the man in the photo was a former employee of hers, Brian Halo. But he left MD to work at another company named Modern Manufacturing. She says the current head of Modern Manufacturing is Robert Gage.

Dunham goes to MM to investigate, and she marches straight to Brian Halo's office. Halo, who is there, pulls a gun on her; but she manages to arrest him. Halo is taken into FBI custody for questioning, but refuses to say anything.

When Kyle and Anna emerge from the Stratagem, they realize it is snowing outside. This is odd for Kyle, because he remembers being abducted at a July Fourth party, and he only remembers being in the Stratagem for a few days. He's in Boston. So how is it possible that only days after July Fourth, it is snowing outside?

Kyle has been contemplating what he will do when he escapes. He has killed a man, Brian Halo (he has no idea that Halo has been appearing randomly), and he can not let the authorities find out. His life will be over. He doesn't want to tell Anna either, who hasn't regained her memory fully. Outside the Stratagem, Kyle and Anna encounter an FBI agent who has come looking for them. The agent claims she is Olivia Dunham.

Immediately, Kyle runs. He is afraid that if the FBI catch him, he will be forced to reveal that he has murdered a man. He and Anna eventually elude Dunham (only after Kyle knocks her unconscious), and Anna demands that Kyle tell her why he ran from an FBI agent.

Kyle reveals his emotional story unwillingly, unfolding the tale of his awakening in the Stratagem, his encounter with Matthew, his encounter with Halo, and then their escape. Anna has sympathy for him, and now understands why he has been reluctant to go to any authorities.

Previously, Matthew and Andrew had escaped as well. But before that, during their escape and after their encounter with Halo, they bumped into John Griffin. He captures them, but then someone appears: Brian Halo. It has been known to all the Stratagem baddies that Halo has been killed by Kyle Fischer, so Griffin is absolutely shocked. Quickly, he phones the Stratagem morgue to see if Halo's body is down there. It is.

Griffin tries to ask questions, but Halo tells him that it is important he let Matt and Andy free. Scared out of his skin, Griffin allows this, and then Halo disappears.

After this, Gage orders an evacuation of the Stratagem for reasons of his own. He wants everyone to move to a strange place called the Vault. When Griffin gets there, he discovers the Vault is an underground web of rooms, Gage's hiding place. In the Vault they discuss Griffin's encounter with Halo, and what to do about the escaped prisoners. Gage introduces a man named DaVinci: an Italian mercenary who is the best of the best. He will stop at nothing to assasinate Kyle and Anna.

Matt and Andy escape, and find their way to Boston. On the way, Matt reveals what happened to him in the Stratagem. He tells how Griffin imprisoned him. In the cell across from his was a crazy Russian woman, named Sbraccia. She had been in the Stratagem for years, and her mind was severely damaged by this.

While camping in the woods, Kyle and Anna are approached by men in gas masks wielding guns. Immediately, they flee. But soon they are captured and they are brought to a black van outside the Stratagem. The men reveal themselves to be the Stratagem's enemy, workers of someone named Mr. Whood. Before they can all get into the van and escape, DaVinci the Italian mercenary shows up and attacks. Everyone hops in the van, except one of Mr. Whood's men, who is killed. The van speeds away, leaving DaVinci behind.

In Boston, Matt and Andy find the internet cafe and they research Robert Gage. They discover the conspiracies currently wrapped around Modern Manufacturing, and they also find an article written by Rob Gage for a newspaper. The article was about the topic of alternate realities, something many people are not aware of. Then Halo appears, and shows them a television outside a street window. The main story was a hijacked plane by caucasion terrorists. Halo claims the terrorists are friends of the Stratagem. He says the hijacking was a diversion, because soon bombs would be smuggled into Boston.

Halo then leaves, but not before telling Matthew that he would soon be faced with a choice of dire importance. With Halo gone, they walk down the street, until a building explodes. They duck down for fear of getting struck with shrapnel, but then they hear a little girl screaming. They look up and they see a house on fire, a poor little girl crying inside the window.

Thinking this must be the choice Halo was talking about, Matt and Andy rush into the building to save the little girl. Long story short, they bust into the building, rush to the top floor, bust down another door, and get to the little girl. The building is violently lurching, and just as they are about to escape, a dark shadow fills the doorway. Someone is there. Someone they did not expect: Dr. Jacob Turner. He takes out a gun, and shoots Andrew. Then he shoots Matthew. Then the little girl.

Meanwhile, Kyle and Anna are in the van operated by Whood's men. There are three people: Joanne, Charlie, and Jamie. They seem friendly, but Kyle doesn't trust them. Kyle says the name Whood sound familiar. Then he remembers that in a dream while sleeping in the Stratagem, he was being taken to a lab owned by a man named Mr. Whood. Joanne claims that Kyle may have some special abilities that enable him to foresee future events. She says that are going to see Mr. Whood.

Then a van appears behind theirs: DaVinci's. They try to elude the Italian mercenary, and they are eventually led into the burning ciy of Boston, where DaVinci shoots one of their tires. The van spins out of control, DaVinci's van hits theirs, and everyone is knocked unconscious. When Kyle awakens, he shakes Anna awake, and they stand up. Then DaVinci arrives, angry, scarred, armed. He tries to attack them, but someone from Whood's team occupies DaVinci with gunfire. This allows Kyle and Anna to escape.

When they're far away from DaVinci and Whood's team, they sit up against a building. They are exhausted, and they just want to feel safe. Then they hear something, a whistle that comes from above. They stand up, look up. A bomb is being dropped near them. Immediately they embrace each other as the bomb strikes the ground, igniting all the buildings in fire, and both of them are caught in the ripping explosion and engulfed in flame.

Now for the season premiere of STRATAGEM II! It is titled 2.01 Recovery, and it will feature the POV of the Stratagem, and Matthew Broadstone. Enjoy, and please tell me what you think. So without further ado, I present to you . . .

    Chapter One:
    Recovery

A lone person stumbled under the blazing light of a streetlamp. The road was completely desolate, except for this one man. Small houses innocently slept on both sides of him, the windows shut and the curtains drawn.

The man was pleased to find a source of light. He had been limping along that dark street, only the eerie yellow moon making it possible for him to see. If the sky hadn’t been so black, the man would have noticed wispy smoke drifting high in the air, originating from the inner city.

He suddenly felt a sharp pain in his arm, sharper than the pains he had been feeling for hours as he escaped Boston. The man clutched his shoulder and briefly moaned in pain. When he released his hand, it was drenched in red blood. He grunted in pain and rushed his clean hand through his messy, black hair.

He looked down at his legs and also saw blood soaking his pants. “Ah, damn.”

He glanced behind him and saw that he had been leaving a trail of blood that extended down the street. Oh, no. Meshing with the excruciating pain of his wounds was the guilt of what this man had just done. But before the guilt and sorrow could overwhelm him, the man collapsed onto the ground in a heap of exhaustion.

The man had not been unconscious for ten minutes when the growling of a speeding vehicle began to hum nearby. At the end of the street, the headlights of a black van blared. The van cruised down the road until it arrived at the scene of the man’s fall, under the streetlight.

In no time, men in black suits were hopping out of the van, carrying medical equipment. They immediately knelt beside the man, grimacing at his bloody wounds. As the men gathered around the fallen person, the leader of the operation emerged from the passenger door of the van. His hands calmly behind his back, the leader curiously observed the person on the ground.

One of the doctors surrounding the fallen man faced the leader and heaved an ominous sigh.

“Well?” the leader demanded. “Will he be okay?”

The doctor. “Yes, Mr. Gage, sir.”

    “How is his condition?”

“I’m afraid Dr. Turner might be unconscious for the night. He won’t be able to tell us what happened until he awakes.”

Robert Gage bit his lip in frustration. “All right then. Get Jacob into the van.”

The doctors hoisted Dr. Jacob Turner up and lifted him into the back of the van. Gage hopped back into the passenger seat.

The driver, John Griffin, stared at Gage. “How is he?”

“Unconscious and hurt, but he’ll be okay.”

Griffin frowned. “Do you think Jacob succeeded? Do you think Broadstone and Clementine are finally dead?”

Amusement touched Gage’s lips. “I have no doubt. Jacob is a loyal and dedicated follower. He would not return unless they were both killed.”

“Now just Fischer and Jackson stand in our way. Has DaVinci given any word on them?”

“Apparently, DaVinci was in a standoff with people from the System.”

“You mean, people working for Whood?” Griffin seemed surprised.

“Yes. And afterwards, bombs destroyed the area where DaVinci supposed Fischer and Jackson were hiding.”

“So he’s not sure they’re dead?”

“Who knows? Either way, they still won’t go the authorities.”

“Right. Because Kyle thinks he killed Brian.”

    “Kyle did kill Brian.”

    “Then how—”

“I told you once and I’ll tell you again. For the time being, I shall not reveal the explanation behind Halo’s appearances. Be patient.”

Once all of the doctors were safely loaded in the van, Griffin sped away. Behind them, the street was clean of blood. The doctors had erased all evidence that people had been on the road that night. The van turned onto another street, vanishing in seconds.

But by the scene of Turner’s fall, two eyes glistened in the shadows of two trees. The person stepped forward confidently, smirking at what he had just seen happen.

Brian Halo inhaled relaxingly as the wind whispered, rustling tree branches and blowing his coat to the side. He grinned in satisfaction. The wheels were turning. The gears were in motion. The events that were soon to come were inevitable.

As the wind died down, Brian Halo walked away silently, enclosing a pair of sunglasses over his watchful eyes.

    ***

    Open your eyes.

The thoughts of his unconscious mind were distant, yet loud. Prominent.

    Awaken. Now.

His mind slowly browsed over many thoughts. Mainly his life. Memories that brought him happiness. Moments of glee, of love, of friendship.

Then his mind started to think about what had just happened to him. A building on fire. A screaming child flailing in his arms. The image of the child brought a feeling of sorrow, guilt, failure. To his left was someone struggling to support a wooden plank. Andrew. To his right was a man aiming a gun. Dr. Jacob Turner.

Turner fired his weapon, causing Andrew to dramatically collapse. Then Turner directed the gun towards him.

    Towards me.

Then there was a crack. The gun had been fired.

    Towards me.

But I feel no pain. Why?

Why do I feel no emotion?

Am I dead? Am I asleep?

    Where am I?

    Open your eyes.

    Awaken. Now.

    ***

When Matthew Broadstone’s eyes slowly flickered open, he felt as if he had been revived by doctors. His heart pumped furiously and his head thumped and pounded like a drum. He gasped for breath desperately, as if he had been deprived of proper air his entire life. For what seemed like hours, Matt felt paralyzed. His chest vigorously rose and fell.

Above him, all he could see was a sky of the darkest black. His throat was raw and felt like it was peeling inside. He could feel sweat pouring down his face, soaking his shirt.

I need to get up, Matt thought.

He tried once, but he was so weak he could not summon the strength to move one of his limbs. A sense of anxiousness and irony teased him—he now felt so helpless, and it was not the first time he had been in a situation like this. He had felt this way when he had first awoken in the Stratagem. And now, following his escape, he found himself in a similar condition.

He lay there for several more minutes, until he was finally able to sit up. Although it took an enormous amount of strength to get off his back, he felt more energetic.

He looked around and was shocked.

The entire area around him was completely flattened—burnt and flattened. The ground was charred and smeared with ash, dust, and rubble. Beside him, a flame slowly licked a piece of blackened wood, hungrily consuming what was left of it. Immediately, his eyes flashed to the flame on his arm.

He sighed and looked around again. He paused suddenly when he spotted a limp arm protruding from beneath a large board of wood.

    Andrew.

Without hesitation, Matt pounced to his feet, despite the pain felt by his muscles. He let out a deafening roar, which hurt his dry throat.

This is the fault of the Stratagem!

Matt stumbled to his left, glaring around at the city of Boston. The entire city was shattered. In ruins.

And the Stratagem has done this!

Matt lunged for some planks of wood, picked them up, and angrily hurled them towards the crumbling remains of what used to be a wall. He lifted up bricks and chucked them at the ground. He kicked piles of ash and rubble, scattering smoke and dust in the air.

When he suddenly felt an unusual weakness, Matt realized he had used too much energy. He bent over, clutched his kneecaps, and panted. A ring of sweat circled around his neck on his filthy shirt. He looked over to where Andrew was.

He wobbled over there, raised the board of wood, and threw it off Andrew’s mangled body. Part of Andrew’s body was burnt, and blood puddled beneath him. Although most of his face was scorched, there was an air of peace about his expression.

Seeing his dead friend, a sorrow incapable of being described overcame Matt. He dropped to his knees and stroked Andrew’s face. It was course and tough. Tears welled in Matt’s eyes. Beginning to cry uncontrollably, he brushed his hand over Andrew’s eyes, closing his eyelids.

    Matt dropped his head.

Andrew, why did this happen to you?

An uncontrollable sense of anger appeared in Matt’s mind.

Why wasn’t I shot? Why you, and not me? Matt curled his lip. In fact, I remember being shot.
The sounds of the scene repeated themselves in Matt’s head.

“Matt, get out of here,” Andrew had urged him. “Take the girl and get out of here!”

Just then, Dr. Jacob Turner had entered the doorway. Matt had lunged protectively for the little girl he and Andrew had been trying to save, and Matt had yelled to Turner, “What are you doing here?”

“I’m sorry,” Dr. Turner had said sadly.

First the Stratagem doctor had turned his gun on Andrew. After the gun cracked, the building lurched violently. As the gun sounded once again, Matt had fallen unconscious.
It then dawned on him that perhaps he had never actually been shot. Maybe the shock of having a gun aimed at him after his best friend had just been shot, all while he was in a teetering, burning building, had been too much for Matt to handle.

You do not deserve this, Matt thought to Andrew. This is a fate you do not deserve. You died trying to save us. That little girl and me.

    Matt almost chuckled.

Jokingly, he thought, You were so stubborn, and that’s the tragedy behind it. No matter what, you wouldn’t let me die with you. You wanted that girl and me to be saved. Sacrifice.

A tear fell from Matt’s cheek onto Andrew’s shirt, making a clear circle in all the rubble.
Then Turner had to come along. Maybe you would have been saved. Maybe you would be alive, if Turner hadn’t shot you!

In the distance, Matt heard the sirens of police cars, fire engines, and ambulances. From the recesses of his mind he heard John Griffin’s voice. Kyle escaped the Stratagem, but he is reluctant to go to the authorities.

Matt remembered that being found by anyone yet was not a preference. He looked at Andrew for the last time. He has a solid pit in his throat, and he found it hard to swallow. Before all of this, he and Andrew had been leading perfect lives. Now Andrew lay dead, mangled and bloody and filthy. He tried to remember Andrew’s humor, his smile, his jokes. Everything before seemed so . . . happy, compared to where Matt was right now. He looked at Andy, pursed his lips together, and wiped a tear off his ashy face.

    Gone, but not forgotten.

Then, Matt disappeared into the night.

I hope you liked it! Tell me what you think, and be honest!

    It's baaaaaaaack! Yay!
Great first chapter, you've really done it again.
It's honestly great, and I'm super excited for next chapter already.
The final two sentences were my favourite. It was really, really good.

I'm hoping for lots of Kyle or Anna (preferrably both) in the next chapter...

Yay! Thanks for releasing the first chapter a day early and also for adding the recap before. It really helped.
And as for the chapter: Wow! It's a great way to start the new season! What I really want to know right now is how Matthew survived.
    Great job, Fringified!
