    Default Doctor Who/Torchwood

I thought I'd throw them both together.

I know Crispy-Critter is a fan, but does anyone else here watch either of them? Doctor Who is quite possibly the greatest show, simply because of the immense history it has. It started in 1963 and has some 700 episodes.

For those who don't know, Doctor Who is about the Doctor, a Time Lord from Gallifrey. He travels in time and space with companions (usually young, female and human although there have been exceptions) in his TARDIS. His character differs a bit with each regeneration, but he's usually a bit nuts, very intelligent but hates violence.

Since 2005, Gallifrey (and Skaro and the Daleks and the rest of the Time Lords) were destroyed in the last great Time War, and we discover that the Doctor allowed them all to burn to stop the war, so he's now (or was...or is?) the last of the Time Lords.

Torchwood is a spin-off of Doctor Who (Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who as well...) about the Torchwood Institute, which is supposed to defend the Earth from alien threats. Torchwood Three is led by Captain Jack Harkness, who travelled with the Doctor. He can't die, thanks to Rose and a looong complicated thing which involves opening the heart of the TARDIS and Bad Wolf, so he became a fixed point in time and space and spends a lot of time getting shot and blown up.

Have I turned everyone off it now?

    A few clips!

The old school theme music from the 60s.

YouTube - Doctor Who - Original Theme Music Video

Five regenerating into Six (this cracks me up every time, I can't help it, I just find it so so so funny).

YouTube - The Doctor regenerates - Doctor Who - BBC sci-fi

Classic sci-fi monsters! Daleks vs the Cybermen.

YouTube - Doctor Who Daleks vs Cybermen

Ten remembering all the people he's lost since the series started again in 2005. Plus the awesomeness that is his companions.

YouTube - Doctor Who - The Doctor's True Self (Journey's End)

Ten, Rose and Ten Point Five. Long story there. Human-Time Lord instantaneous biological metacrisis.

YouTube - Doctor Who 4x13 Journey's End Rose And Doctor Kiss

One of my favourite DW clips. This is the Master, who is a mental Time Lord (who escaped the Time War by hiding as a human). He's crazy. And yeah. Crazy.

    YouTube - The Master: I Can't Decide.

I shall end this rather psychotic rant with one of my favourite quotes about the Doctor, from an episode called Family of Blood in Season 3 (John Smith is technically the Doctor.....long story there).

Latimer: (about the Doctor) He’s like fire and ice and rage. He’s like the night and the storm in the heart of the sun…
    John Smith: Stop it.
Latimer: He’s ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time and he can see the turn of the universe.
John Smith: Stop it! I said, stop it!
    Latimer: And… he’s wonderful.

I love this show a bit too much and I really need to find a clip of Nine dancing, because it's the funniest thing ever.

Damn it! The Journey's End clip made me cry! And now I'm sitting here thinking about Ten regenerating and crying to myself . I am really going to miss DT though, he is just such a fantastic actor and I love Ten so much.

Five's regeneration is so amusing...it just looks really weird, I'm so glad we now have special effects that make regeneration look so much cooler. Nothing beats the part in Nine's regeneration where his hair grows into Ten's, that bit just looks both creepy and awesome.

    And just for you

That bit always makes me cry too, as does The Family of Blood and Doomsday, obviously. I had a major "Omg Ten" moment earlier while watching The Stolen Earth and began crying. It was a little embarassing. DT is a fantastic actor, there's one scene in The Family of Blood that always gets me, when he begins crying and saying that all he wants to be is John Smith. I always, always burst into tears at that.

Five's regeneration cracks me up. Actually, that whole episode is just funny. Especially the masked rapist dude, who actually suceeds in being incredibly creepy.

For you..."Yep. That's right! I sang a song and the Daleks ran away"

Nine dancing! God I love that bit far too much. "I can dance!" Ah Nine...where would we be without your manic grin and dancing skills to rival the Master?

I really like this show! LOVED Christopher Eccleston (especially with Rose) and it look me a while to like David Tennant because of that but he won me over! Him and Rose in Doomsday just broke my shipper heart! When they were in Bad Wolf bay! (I can't find a crying smilie so this sad face will have to do but it isn't nearly enough!) I know the duplicate doc or 10.5 as you call him (great name by the way!) and Rose are together so it kind of lessens the blow like you said but...what about the doctor?! I watched it less after Rose left as I was so disheartened and Martha annoyed me but I got right back into it during the time of the Master's return...BRILLIANT television there! John Simm is pretty amazing! I even started to like Martha too after that!

I think that's maybe my problem with this show - I grow to love a character and then they take him/her away! I know that's pretty much the whole premise but I invested a lot of time in CE and Rose and then into DT and Rose and they took everyone away! I usually get over my misgivings about a character so I'm sure I'll like this new doctor...but I think it'll take some time! I'm a bit worried that Russell T Davies won't be doing it as he's pretty amazing but we'll see!

Now for Torchwood - I'm just not sure about this one! I kind of liked the first series but apart from Jack and Gwen (maybe sometimes) I didn't really have any love for the other characters! I HATED Owen and I found Tosh a bit annoying. Some episodes I saw were good and some not so good! Maybe I'll give another go as I'm told Children of Earth was pretty good but hmmm I'm just not sure!

Gotta love the Tardis rave. I absolutely adore that scene, it was great.

See, I came in after Christopher Eccleston had left, so Ten was *my* Doctor and it took me a while to watch the CE episodes because he WASN'T Ten. I think Ten wins pretty much everyone over, he's adorable isn't he?

I can't remember where 10.5 came from, that was always a bit confusing because he never really got a name. I wonder what Rose calls him, because calling him Doctor would be weird, because he's technically not the Doctor.

I didn't like Martha at first, and oddly, I HATED Donna. However, I then got into it and began loving them too but in a different way to Ten and Rose. Ten and Rose were just....Ten and Rose. The other companions are great, but in different ways. I love Donna now.

I think I'm going to like Eleven, I didn't until seeing him in his costume, then I just had a big...Oh my god. He's the DOCTOR moment. He looks like the Doctor, and I think I'll like him. What I like about Doctor Who is that you can't hate the new Doctors because they're still the Doctor, but they're all different. Stephen Moffett is pretty good, he wrote The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances and Blink (which scared me so much that I hid in the corner and hid my eyes....) so I trust him. I think.

Children of Earth was incredible. I can't honestly say I liked it, it scarred me too much to describe it as liked, but it was incredible, brilliantly written and very, very powerful.

I still haven't watched all of series one (just bought the DVD the other day so I'm catching up) but I really am enjoying Christopher Eccleston. The first episode I watched of Doctor Who was The Christmas Invasion so David Tennant was the first person I saw to the play The Doctor and I fell in love with him. Doomsday is one of the saddest episodes of any tv show that I have seen I still cannot watch that episode without sobbing. John Simm is so awesome! The Master was such a fun character, and yeah I agree on Martha. I never really liked her that much during season three but I quite like her now after seeing her on Torchwood, she became quite an awesome character once she stopped angsting over the fact that The Doctor didn't have the same interest for her as she did for him.

Awww yeah that is one of the hardest things of Doctor Who, the fact they have such a great character and you really grow to love a particular regeneration of him and then the actor changes. I'm only a recent Doctor Who fan really so I've never "lost" a Doctor to a regeneration and I'm really not looking forward to watchind Tens Although at the same time I'm quite excited for Eleven, but it is a bit scary because it will be different.

Skibopple, have you seen any of the classic seasons? They're hilarious, there's a great one where people keep getting chased by a giant black triangle. I think that was the Five Doctors actually

I think I've seen every Doctor Who episode, both original and new. David Tennant is my absolute favourite doctor - I hated Chistopher Eccleston. He just didn't feel like a Doctor to me.... Tom Baker was probably my second fave

And ski, I'm with you - Doomsday broke my shipper heart too, as did Journeys End despite Rose technically ending up with the Doctor. I looooooooooove DT as the Doctor, he pulls it off so well. I think I may actually end up not watching it after he leaves. I'm too attached and after seeing Matt in another show and finding myself unimpressed, I just don't think I'll be able to take it.

    Daleks ! My favorites !

I wasn't a fan of Eccleston, so i immediatly loved David Tennant.
Now i can't imagine what it'll be like with the 11th...... i already forgotten his name..... Matt Smith ?

    Anyway.

I love Alex Kingstone as a guest star, and i like Martha.More than Donna, who's nice, but that's it.

I looooved Donna. I thought it was great that we didn't have an assistant who was madly in love with the Doc. I mean, don't get me wrong Martha was good but she just wasn't Rose who was the original love interest for Ten. She lacked originality I think, though I did love it when she went all awesome-Rogue-agent in the 3 finale. She kind of kicked ass Donna was definitely my fave assistant next to Rose because she didn't worship the Doctor, she respected him and treated him as a best friend than a boyfriend. She loved him because he took her away from the monotony of her life and showed her a whole new world. She was great - and I cried so much it isn't even funny when she was turned back into her really old self. Heartbreaking - esp. when he says that for one moment she was the most important person in the universe.

EDIT: Just watched the vids - "Um.... New teeth.... That's weird. Now where was I? Oh that's right, Barcelona!"
