Does this show borrow too much?

So, in the world of Fringe, the X Files must have been a tv show based on the real life exploits of the "X Designation" in the FBI.

But in which universe? Is there a universe where the X-files was the real predecessor of the Fringe Division and is there a universe where these are both TV shows and Finge Forum is another TV show where phx219 and Arctor are played by actors...my, these mushrooms are good

The mind-bend of it all is that in the same episode, we see that X-Files exists, just like in "our universe" as a television show in the beginning of the episode and yet is referenced, by the 'old X designation' as part of the fictional "blue universe."

In other words, how can it be a tv show in the Fringe-verse and an actual FBI division. Also, several actors on Fringe have appeared on The X-Files, throwing things off even further.

Easy - it was a documentarial reconstruction of actual events! What would really screw it up is if Duchovny turned up as Mulder and not as Duchovny (unless it was in St. Claire's).

The TV show is the X Files, the actual division was the X Designation (or Division). I'm personally going with "tv show based on true exploits" with actors that look very much like the actual agents are supposed to. I don't think that would screw things up! lol!

I can *totally* picture Skinner and Broyles, or Broyles having to deal with the conspiracy group lol. There could be some really fun exchanges lol.
