    Default Halloween-time Books!

What books really set you in the mood for Halloween? I know that the name Stephen King probably comes to mind! I just finished The Shining, and man, was it intense! The Shining is the scariest book I've read and, despite being long, it will definitely keep you interested. I heard that Dean Koontz was a very scary author as well, so I picked up From the Corner of His Eye. I'm only about 100 pages in, but it's awesome so far!

So do any of you know any chilling books for the Halloween season?

I`ll be honest I`m not an avid Stephen King reader! Scary books and Thrillers are not really my type!!
I do remember reading Coraline in probably the fourth or fifth grade! Gave me nightmares for weeks.....

Aw, that's too bad! Some of his book are really good. Try "The Stand." It's not horror, but I think you'll enjoy it

Eh, it's not really a Halloween book but it has a scary message: Lord of the Flies (my absolute favourite book ever.)

ETA: The Shining.... Woah. Scared me like crap but I loved Cujo and Carrie.

ETA2: Oh and a book called The Wasp Factory is immense!

I've heard of Lord of the Flies, but never read it. I guess I'll have to put it on my list

Yeah, The Shining was awesome. A little different from the movie, but still scary! And I loved Cujo! It was so suspenseful and I kept flipping the pages, waiting to see what would come next! The only part that actually let me down was the fact that we never learned about the horror in Tad's closet. And as for Carrie . . . eh. I didn't care for it that much. Some parts were interesting (I think the interrupting news articles were a very good idea), like the beginning of Carrie's campaign of terror, but I think Stephen King can just do a whole lot better than that.

    Immense, or intense?

You should, it's incredible. Very prolific, extremely intense and harrowing. All about man's inner evil and how at base is a savage.

You didn't like Carrie? Are you nuts! The bit at the prom? The blood? The end? Oh man, it's awesome. I think I liked it more than Cujo! Oh and Tad's closet bit freaked me out so much I had to take a break from reading it for like a week.

    Both. It's just... A trip.

    Sounds good!

Yeah, maybe I'll reread Carrie, give it another try. And my fingers hurt after squeezing the book so hardly, while reading about Tad's closet!

The Stand is the best book ever. It's not a trip, it's a permanent vacation
