The Dutchman Radjan carried a deadly virus in his body. Does he even know that he was infected? It doesn't make sense what kind of benefit would Vitas get if they obtain the soil sample from Solum?

This made me wonder if Radjan was sent as a pawn of Solum Oil to attack the company. If Radjan knew that he is infected, then he is a willing participant. If not, Solum could have orchestrated it, knowing that Radjan would sell it to Vitas.

A bigger question is, why would an oil company be interested with soil sample carrying deadly virus? Mind you, they do know that there's a risk on that sample, hence, they seal it in airtight protective cover.

Having said that, why would Fringe will be interested in such case? Why would a rival oil companies be so interesting?

Perhaps because it is more than that? After all, Vitas Petrol is an anagram for Viral Test Op... it was merely a test, and could possibly come back for a bigger strike.

I beleive that the person he was going to see was involved with some type of Boi engineering. WHich is why he would be interested in the sample. Also,, most likely Radjan and the company were still not aware of how the virus was transferred (if they were aware of the Virus at all). Youll often see core samples then testing deep down for certain materials.

Fringe was involved not because of the companys involved, but because of how the guy died.

The sample was from an exploratory oil drill. Typically a company will drill a core and then analyze it's composition for the presence of oil and other materials, as well as their quality. Some minerals are also common around oil deposits so it's also possible they were testing the core for those as well.

When the federal investigator withdraws the sample from the core it looks like it's unrefined crude... Dark black and shiny which is just how it comes from the ground.

He had no idea he was sick. The core sample should have been kept in a sealed, air-tight container... but he had to remove it to steal it, which meant that it was not sealed properly. The virus leaked to him, and he was infected without ever knowing anything was wrong.
