Maybe it's an alternate reality where California got dragged into the ocean and dragged oregon with it.
Did anyone notice the "48-star" flags behind Broyles toward the end of this episode? Is this an indication that a couple of states have seceded (e.g. Palin's Alaska) due to the "Pattern's" nefarious activities or just a bad choice of a very old flag by the prop crew? Hmmmm.

Didn't notice the stars on the flag, it could be a prop error, as you say, or maybe it's something they planted in there for a reason. I'll have to rewatch that scene. Thanks for bringing attention to it OD.
Have we seen other flags in other episodes, and have they been normal?
I can't imagine the props team could make that kind of a mistake by accident and not have anybody notice. On the other hand its a mystery to me to see how two states seceding from the union would affect the plot. Either way, this will be something to watch for.
Just thought I'd try to lend a helping hand on this one. Here are some of my high-res screen captures of the flags (I think this is what you're talking about).
Sorry, had to link them externally since the attachments system won't allow images this big.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but.. how can I see that the flag has only 48 stars on those posted links? If it does have only 48 stars, we have to keep our eyes open for more flags in the show. It's already a fact that Fringe is a alternate reality (Massive Dynamic being everywhere etc.) so it would be interesting to see that America lost a few states.
Thanks for those excellent caps, Berix!
