    Because the Western world, especially Olivia's mom's generation is very Christian oriented. A cross would make the most sense, and a buddha would just be completely out of place. I saw no religious indication in the scene, it was just, as mentioned by a previous poster, a warning to Rachel that Olivia thinks she won't make it back.

    Well, JJ is known to like the man of science, man of god kinda stuff. To be honest I didn't even give it a second thought.
