Default 1.02 - To Keep Us Safe

So, what did you think of Episode 2 of the Event?

    Samuel Lee's an E.T.? Who would've guessed?

So the detainees are aliens, huh? I have a feeling (or a hope) that they're not aliens in the traditional sense...

There were a lot of answers given in this follow-up to the premiere, and a lot of insight into the nature of the world of the Event. I'm starting to see the potential this show might have to be another excellent sci-fi mystery.

I highly enjoy the use of flashbacks. It makes the characters more relatable (Sean Walker is a cool dude), and I imagine that they can pull off some neat twists and gradually peel back the layers of the story with this narrative device.

Everyone on the plane is dead? Kind of "mass sacrifice" weird, if you ask me...

I'm growing fond of the Event. I'll still give it the Four-Episode-Test, but at this rate, chances are that I'll be fully invested by then.

It met my expectations this week. I was going on and on about how predictable it was, and then Greg died and I felt like an idiot. I also 'guessed' right before the blood test scene that Lee was an alien (since it was only a few minutes before, it wasn't really a guess, just kind of throwing out random plot twists xD). I agree, I also hope they're not traditional aliens. I guessed before the show started (a legitimate hypothesis this time) that it would end up being about aliens, and I'm disappointed that I was correct. I like the flashbacks, but it's going to take me a little while to get used to them.

Overall, a good episode! I think this is starting to shape up quite nicely.

I see you had an interesting viewing experience.

I liked the idea that the aliens are similar to us by a 1% DNA difference margin, as though they had a similar evolutionary history to ours. At least it excludes them being Greys in disguise (which would be lame).

With so many twists and turns, I imagine that it'll be a challenge to keep things fresh and cohesive for the rest of the season, let alone the rest of the potential series.

And the EM pulses/radiation bursts most likely have a tangible connection to the Event...

I'm really liking the direction the show is going (or at least I think it's going). Still love the non linear storytelling they use to build the character's personal story and background. As for the aliens I'm not one bit upset about it. I laugh when any new sci fi show comes out and people are all like "Please don't be aliens." As if every other show on TV is about aliens. I think in today's TV landscape a show about aliens is a breath of fresh air. And then to find out that they aren't even aliens in the typical sense and to me it gets even more mysterious and fun. Looking forward to each and every Monday as long as this show lasts.

I think the possibilities are still pretty wide open as to what the "aliens" are. They could be time travelers or from an alternate universe, in which case the DNA difference & slow aging might be explained by some medical need/genetic treatment that arose in their time or universe. The method they used to divert the plane might be related to their ability to move through time or dimensions.

If they are from another planet, their extreme similarity to humans might be explained by the old sci-fi idea that some super-advanced ancient race seeded genetic code throughout the galaxy, and similar races sprang up all over. IIRC, that one was used in Star Trek TNG, and Picard figured it out at some point.

At any rate, we missed the pilot episode but enjoyed this one enough to watch again next week. The pilot reviews I read were mostly negative, and most reviewers (and folks on some message boards) didn't seem to like the reliance on flashbacks, but I can see how necessary they are for quick character development with a large cast and to relay so much plot info efficiently. The alternative would be hours & hours of tedium, and I don't think naysayers understand that sometimes.

I thought these first two episodes were like an interesting mix of Nowhere Man, Prey, and maybe Lost (but I never saw Lost, so I can't really talk). I was laughing and rolling my eyes at a couple scenes, but for the most part, it was thoroughly interesting. I'll continue to watch.

Its not captivating like fringe or persons unknown for me yet, but theres potential in the premise and some of the acting is okay. Parrallel evolution, or shared anscestor leaves a lot of room for plotlines and backstories.

The flashbacks and foward, the pacing is good, but some of the writing is occasionally hammy, in a hmmm, flashfoward way. Still, so far, totally keeping my interest (one can overlook small faults, if the plot/premise etc is interestingly done).

    Yeah, pretty good.

I agree; do we know who all those helicopters belonged to? It wouldn't be the government, and I'm not sure the 'free aliens' would be that organized...

(And I thought if it was the rest of the aliens, they might hold the passengers hostage in exchange for the aliens imprisoned in Alaska)

So do they belong to some 3rd party?
