Anna blew me away with her acting, as she does in every episode. Seeing Olivia being herself again was great. The acting was dead on, and I teared up more than once.

ETA. Also loved seeing the Observer again, and the parallels between the case and Olivia's situation was really wonderful to see.

Anna's acting was incredible!!! So was Josh's, even though it had to be a bit more subtle. Just in general, everyone's performances were fantastic!

Awesome episode. Very emotional, and Anna comes across so well in her acting. This is why the show is so good. The acting and the writers pulling you in and making you care about these characters.

The episode itself got me to think; at what lengths would you go to retrieve a lost loved one? Even when the soul is gone...

Anna brought back OUR Olivia; oh, how I missed her. Josh brought on the heartache, but he was surely hurting, especially when she said she didn't want to be around him at all.

I loved the scene where Astrid and Olivia talked. Olivia needs a female friend.

The serum that slow down cell degradation made me think back to "The Bishop Revival, and the Nazi that didn't age, for some reason.

Anna was just...indescribably good this time around. Wow! The scene in the hospital cafe, as Peter haltingly tries to break the awful news to her while the camera doesn't cut from her gradual reaction was perfect. This slow and agonizing transformation takes place as she realizes what Peter is implying. She doesn't just go from being Cheerful!Olivia to Heartbroken!Olivia, she coasts through several other emotions on the way: shock, fear, bitterness, anger, confusion, sadness though not necessarily in that order. Just. Wow.

On a lighter note, I also enjoyed Walter tasting the cremains from the urn, and Peter and Astrid reacting at the same time: "Oh my God."

"She's just what you need: someone who can see right through you."

Anna Torv was fantastic. Her face was like an open book. She failed to disquise her emotions even when she was trying to subdue them as in the first half of the show.

Even Astrid could not help Olivia: "It's not fine, whatever feelings that Peter had - were not about her. They were about you. And they were real, they still are."

I knew this would happen. Olivia feels let down by Peter. Peter who was her rock in the altverse, keeping her mindful of who she was. She was drugged/altered, Peter was not. She could not know, and yet did; Peter could know, should know, and yet did not. Bespoiling their relationship was, I think, inevitable when one party feels so let down.

All Peter can do is whisper, "I'm sorry." Not just for Olivia, but for himself, for their relationship.

On the technical side we have a tie-in with season 1 and Massive Dynamics. The serum created in the mid-70s by Walter and Bell (Belly) meant to allow questioning someone after death. This was used on Olivia's FBI (undercover NSA) boyfriend, John Scott, inside of Massive Dynamics (a more refined form?).

I got an odd Whedonesque vibe in this ep. Olivia's return and emotional setting similar to Buffy's resurrection. And Walter wondering if Olivia is a robot (the Buffybot). Then there was "Firefly Railways" which was on the train at the beginning of the ep. Was Kaylee the engineer or the oiler?

I could wax eloquent on the amazingness of Anna Torv in this ep - but since I think we're all aware of that, I will point out a few random things that I loved in this episode.

    * Astrid telling Olivia that Peter not noticing "wasn't fine" - way to tell it like it is, Astrid.

    * Walter asking if Peter thought they had replaced Olivia with a robot

    * Olivia's vault over the bottom of the staircase. She did that little motion so easily, but I for some reason I found it incredibly hilarious.
