I think the storyline is much more loose and not so attractive... In season 2 there's actually a defined purpose, while season 1 is more random, so to speak. I love it nonetheless, but still the worst in my opinion. I think that it being new must've done the trick, as you say. Don't know how things are there in the USA, but the move to thursdays brought more competition, didn't it? So that can explain it as well.

I agree. Season 2 and 3 are much more interesting. Not that season 1 was bad, it was still great. But with s2 and s3 the plot is being developed a lot, and i guess that's why i find it better.

Actually they moved it to Fridays since 3x09. And Friday, in the US, is usually a series-killer. That's because on Fridays many people between 18-49 (which is the most important age range for ratings) just go out.

Yeah, I've read about the "Friday Night Death Spot" thing... And it really scares me.

But I was actually refering to thursdays. Season 2 was aired there, and also part of Season 3, which would explain the decrease in rating compared to it's original airing day (monday/tuesday?), since, as far as I know, the competition is heavier on thursdays.

    Uhm. That's probably true.
Anyways, talking about the Friday thing, as I already said, Fringe didn't have much competition yet. If the ratings hold on 1.8-2.0 also next Friday it will be an even greater result. We'll find out.

The ratings are great. I still can not believe almost no one in my school watches Fringe. I tell people about how awesome Fringe is but nobody seems to have a look at it. Or maybe they do but don't like it. Most people find the first episode a bit disgusting and the people around me are probably thinking like "Eww that's gross. If "Pilot" is like this then I can't imagine the other episodes". So maybe that's why they don't watch it.
Whatever, got a little off topic The ratings are great, hope to see more seasons of Fringe.

There really isn't much on TV for the market fox is aiming with Fringe. The scifi channel used to have shows that pulled good ratings in that market, but now has stupid wrestling. I've not watched supernatural before, I'm sure its a show I may like, but I don't think its going to change ratings next week. How many people are watching Fringe just because Supernatural is on? I can't think that many that it will kill ratings.

Considering how poorly other shows have done on Fridays for Fox, I think at the ratings its getting now, even if it drops a tiny bit, Fox will renew.

Fox has a bad track record with shows (this is the network that originally canceled Family Guy, etc.).

Networks in general can be fickle and if they are led to believe they can get something better for less they will. Fox has a ton of programming coming up in Fall 2011, including some they majorly invested in (i.e. 3 hours of X-factor, Spielberg's Terra Nova). NBC, for instance, renewed Southland, then stalled on it's premiere, then just dropped it.

Look, there shouldn't be any reason they wouldn't renew Fringe based on it's ratings and what the network has said, but you never know (network politics, licensing fees v. return, etc. all play into it as well).

If Fox for, some reason, canned Fringe before a fourth season, is there any chance of another network picking it up, or is that just not possible? Maybe J.J. Abrams writing a book/script of how the series would have gone if it had enough air time?

I am really happy we got 1.9 for Reciprocity , I was worried that we got last week's firefly 1.9 because of Christopher lloyd now when we heard we won 9pm 18-34...I was really suprised we got 1.9 back to back no drop...sweeetttttt...great news for another season.
