    Default 1.12 - Inostranka

Meanwhile, newly appointed Alaskan Senator Catherine Lewis threatens to divulge information about the Mt. Inostranka detention facility on an episode of "HARDBALL with Chris Matthews." Elsewhere, Sean and Leila get a fresh lead on the whereabouts of Samantha, but it leads them to a dramatic turn in their lives. James Dempsey foresees that he and Sean will once again cross paths.

(Aired March 7, replacing the shelved "The Cape".)

That good old tv_by_the_numbers site that y'all Fringe fans love sooo much had this to say about the return of The Event:

Returning to NBC’s line up after a long hiatus last night (not yet in the calculations above), The Event ratings tumbled to just a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating. Apparently, The Event being cancelled is “The Event”.

This show is improving tremendously... isn't anyone watching it anymore?

I'd like to say yes, but after "You Bury Other Things Too" (April 4, 2011) when Sean Walker beat a man's hands with a hammer, I stopped watching.

It's one thing when an antagonist is shown horribly torturing someone (although I don't much like seeing that depicted on television either), but to me it's quite another thing when the protagonist and series hero is shown doing that.

And in a political environment where torture by the supposed "good guys" is being excused (or at least ignored), watching this sort of thing being depicted on television as excusable — or necessary — starts to smack a bit of propaganda, in my opinion.

When the stakes are that high, you do whatever you have to. That guy clearly set them up, it was time for Sean to sack up and save the day. If you were put through what he has, you would be that angry, that desparate, that ready to crack. Not a fan of torture, but it added to the character development IMO.

I've been enjoying The Event for a bit of fun.

I've enjoyed how they've resolved their cliffhangers - the sweet'nlow incident is one of many playing itself out at the moment. What about Elias's mrs? Is she... or isn't she...? Heh.

Gene, I found your comments enlightening. Good stuff.

PsychoROC, I hear ya! It's a shame the ratings are as low as they are although I do find Sean a little boyish for a leading man. Hmm the hand hitting thing did kinda turn that around I guess

Not sure about Sophia's logic of killing us off just cause her world's on the 'to be condemned' list.

I like the twists and turns and the fact that the show solves the questions it raises within a reasonable timeframe giving a clear impression of forward momentum. I noticed James Wong's name in the credits so the show is in good hands. Taylor Cole has caught my eye... but that's all I got to say bout that...

    Hi, PsychopathicROC.

Actually, there were a number of things about 24 that I thought were well-done, even brilliant — but, you're right, I had similar misgivings there, too.

And thank you, Moviemath. Your observations are always worth reading and considering.
