I agree about the intentional foreshadowing. It was the second episode of the series. I think the fetus in the apple glyph (which appeared twice in the pilot) tells you that they intended for this pregnancy to be part of the overall plot from the get-go.

Oh, yes, I think so. There are so many threads and clues in this show, I don't know how you could keep continuity without having started with an overarching plot plan.

I read the episode 1.02 accelerated pregnancy as very much a foreshadowing of what we've just seen in 3.18. What's more, episode 1.02 told us what that technology was intended for (growing synthetic soldiers) and who devised it (Claus Penrose, working with Walter Bishop).

What's more, episode 1.02 also let us know that it "wasn't so easy"-- the mom in that episode died, after all.
