Default Massive Dynamics (In-Show) Discussion Thread

I figured we could use an In-show Massive Dynamic thread. There's a MD dicussion thread in the ARG/Viral forum, but that's for the ARG/viral related dicussion. This thread is a general MD discussion thread for the show itself. You're welcome to start new threads in the episode forums about particular aspects of MD relating to that specific episode, but this thread is an over-arching and non-episode specific thread for any thoughts or opinions that you have on Massive Dynamics.

I put this in the viral thread but it's a good way to meet Massive dynamics so I figure it should go here too.

A little history on MD.

THE MASSIVE DYNAMIC STORY

Quote:
In 1992, after years of hard work and research, William Bell had finally succeeded in the creating the biomedical marvel that would change the face of medicine and assure his place in science history. His prototype nanoelectronic circuit enabled the translation of neural impulses into electronic data, a major breakthrough in moveable prosthetics. Bell decided the time had come to found a company that would, as he put it, “satisfy the technological needs of this century and the next.” With the backing of a small group of investors, BELLMEDICS was born.
Bell's contribution to prosthetics couldn't have come at a better time. The Persian Gulf War had just concluded, and BELLMEDICS gave hope to soldiers who had lost limbs in the conflict. With the support of Defense Department grants, Bell's circuit laid the foundation for a revolution in prosthetics that continues to this day.
The firm grew rapidly over the next few years, as BELLMEDICS engineers developed a series of microlaser surgical tools and non-invasive photonic scanners that would become standard at medical facilities around the globe. But for Bell, redefining medicine was only the beginning.
Bell partnered with new investors in 1998 to create Fleming-Monroe Aeronautics, which redesigned commercial jet engines from the ground up and soon developed the acclaimed PEARL Aerocontrol System. In 1999, BELLMEDICS acquired Fleming-Monroe and officially changed its name to Massive Dynamic.
In 2002, on the 10th anniversary of its founding, Massive Dynamic leapt into the world of computing and telecommunications. Massive Dynamic's Q-Security was widely hailed as a superior, seamless networking tool for governments, firms, and households. MD's Computing and Communications branch grew dramatically, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, bio-computation and quantum cryptography.
Two years later, Massive Dynamic burst into the world of entertainment. By 2007, Ludic Science – MD's entertainment subsidiary – had designed digital effects software now used by every major film studio. Meanwhile, the Mass-Dyn Z10 videogame console became an overnight hit with children and adults alike, while Giga-Def Televisions took their place in millions of homes around the world.
Today, Massive Dynamic is a multi-faceted corporation working for the betterment of medical, communications, energy, transportation, and entertainment technology. As humanity moves boldly into the future, Massive Dynamic will be there leading the way, improving the quality of life for people everywhere.
Massive Dynamic: What do we do? What don't we do.

Some excellent background reading there, B - thanks! I wasn't aware that MD used to be called BELLMEDICS.

I know a lot of us have already seen this, but here's the MD logo on the airliner:

MD really do make everything don't they!

"What Do We Do?..What Don't We Do"

I'm actually surprised that Olivia and her team didn't make the connection between MD creating the jet of the plane and the crazyness that happened on board. They only seemed to make the MD connection because Steig was a former MD employee and Dr. Bell was Walter's old partner..

Yeah I think they'll be similar, certainly in terms of being important to the mythology of the show.

However, I seem to recall Abrams saying that they will take MD in a different direction to that of the DI - although I can't remember which article I read that from.

Good catch on the Blackerry Pearl, as it may tie-in with the Pearl transportation system as referenced on the Massive Dynamic site (for those unsure of what this relates to) - I'll have to check that.

(I'm not sure what you mean by "redacted text" - feel free to let us know in the helpdesk so we can look into it and keep these discussion threads on topic )

Btw, I'm going to have to split some of these posts into the MD thread in the ARG forum, as this thread is for in-show discussion (to keep it organized, and for those not playing the ARG). Please use this thread for Massive D website or ARG stuff

(although necessary cross-overs are ok)

BTW, what's up with the redacted text in some of the posts? Just curious.

On the MD site, it mentions that they developed the PEARL aerocontrol system.

Also, did anyone else notice that Olivia was using a Blackberry Pearl smartphone?

Apologies on the website, hadn't made it over to the Viral page yet.
As far as the redacted text, it is a spoiler tasg used for people who may not want to know the information contained inside. All you have to do is roll your mouse over the text and it will appear.

I moved all threads containing viral site stuff to proper threads. I also moved the phone number post to the phone thread.

Do you think we should add all the screen shots of the Massive Dynamic logo that we've seen throughout the show thus far? It might prove useful later on as a reference to everything we've seen them "related" to. Just a thought...
